Trump officially signs the "Genesis Mission," gathering U.S. resources to promote AI research.

On Monday, U.S. President Trump signed an executive order to launch the "Genesis Mission," directing U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright to create and operate the "U.S. Science and Security Platform."

This is an AI experimental platform that integrates existing resources from U.S. national laboratories. The platform will gather high-performance computing resources, AI modeling and analysis frameworks, computational tools, domain-specific foundational models, and secure access to datasets.

The White House likened this initiative to the Apollo program of the 1960s that sent Americans to the moon, calling it the largest mobilization of U.S. scientific resources since the Apollo program. Michael Kratsios, Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, stated:

The Genesis Mission will unify the research efforts of various agencies, using AI as a scientific tool to fundamentally change the way research is conducted.

Wright emphasized that the ultimate goal of the project is to improve the lives of American citizens, particularly in the energy sector, by addressing rising electricity prices through enhanced grid efficiency.

Following the Republican Party's poor performance in several regional elections earlier this month, Trump has increasingly focused on the issue of living costs for Americans in recent weeks.

Integrating U.S. Federal Research Resources to Address Innovation Bottlenecks

The Trump administration positions the "Genesis Mission" as a solution to the challenges facing U.S. scientific superiority.

Michael Kratsios, Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, stated that since the 1990s, the U.S. scientific advantage has faced growing challenges. For example, the number of new drug approvals has stagnated or declined, requiring more researchers to achieve the same output, and workforce training has also stalled.

The White House describes the "U.S. Science and Security Platform" as a "closed-loop AI experimental platform." Kratsios stated:

The Genesis Mission will use AI to automate experimental design, accelerate simulations, and generate predictive models across all fields, from protein folding to fusion plasma dynamics.

He emphasized that this will reduce discovery time from years to days or even hours, enabling scientists to test hypotheses and achieve breakthroughs that are currently unattainable.

The platform will be open to industry, academia, and other research institutions, encouraging government information sharing. Other departments and agencies in the U.S. will also be able to use the platform to address challenges in their respective fields, such as drug discovery.

Commitment to Reducing Energy Costs

According to the executive order, the U.S. Department of Energy plays a core role in this initiative.

U.S. Secretary of Energy Wright is also tasked with identifying a list of "technological challenges of national importance," assessing U.S. federal computing resources, and identifying potential partnerships. The initiative will create a series of scientific and engineering challenges focused on energy and national security for participants.

Wright stated on Monday that several previously announced partnerships are part of the "Genesis Mission," including new projects with NVIDIA, AMD, and HPE in collaboration with U.S. national laboratories. Additionally, Wright emphasized:
