
"Asian Stocks" Asia-Pacific stock markets generally weak, Taiwan and South Korea stocks rise against the trend, SK Hynix up over 4%
The market is waiting for the Federal Reserve's interest rate decision. Today (10th), the Asia-Pacific stock markets are generally soft, with the Taiwan stock market, South Korean stock market, and Indian stock market rising. South Korean memory chip stock SK Hynix is reported to be considering a listing in the U.S., driving up its stock price.
In mainland China, the CPI in November rose 0.7% year-on-year, in line with expectations; the PPI for the same month fell 2.2% year-on-year, a decline greater than market expectations. The Shanghai Composite Index fell 28 points or 0.7% to 3,881 points in the first half of the day; the Shenzhen Component Index fell 74 points or 0.6% to 13,202 points. The Hang Seng Index fell 109 points or 0.4% to 25,325 points, with a turnover of HKD 95.7 billion. The Taiwan Weighted Index rose 136 points or 0.5% to 28,319 points. TSMC and MediaTek rose 1.4% and 2.8%, while Hon Hai fell 0.6%.
The Japanese Nikkei Index fell 96 points or 0.2% in the afternoon to 50,556 points. SoftBank and Tokyo Electron fell 1.1% and 1.5%, Advantest and Discus fell 1.8% and 2.3%, while Fast Retailing rose 1.3%. The South Korean Kospi Index rose 5 points or 0.1% to 4,149 points. SK Hynix is reported to be considering a U.S. listing, with its stock price rising 4.6%. Samsung Electronics rose 0.3%, while LG Energy Solution fell 0.6%.
The Indian Nifty 50 Index rose 71 points or 0.3% to 25,910 points. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone rose 1.2%, while Mahindra & Mahindra rose 1.5%.
The Australian S&P/ASX 200 Index fell less than 1 point at the close to 8,585 points. Gold mining stock Newmont rose 5.7%. The New Zealand Exchange 50 Index fell 83 points or 0.6% at the close to 13,371 points.
The Singapore Straits Times Index fell 14 points or 0.3% to 4,498 points. Singtel and DBS each fell 0.2%, while UOB fell 0.6%. The Malaysian and Philippine stock markets fell 0.3% and 0.6%, respectively, while the Indonesian stock market rose 0.5%. The Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh stock markets in Vietnam fell 0.2% and 1.1%.
