TOKYO, Dec 12 (Reuters) - Nippon Steel (5401.T) , Japan’s biggest steelmaker, sees its global crude steel production capacity at 100 million metric tons or more by 2030, it said on Friday.
In June, Nippon Steel closed a $15 billion deal to buy U.S. Steel (X.MX) and pledged to invest $11 billion, to be increased later, into the asset as it seeks to strengthen its presence in the U.S. market amid weak steel demand in Japan.
Nippon Steel targets 1 trillion yen ($6.42 billion) or more in underlying business profit under its 2030 management plan, it added on Friday. ($1 = 155.8000 yen)
