Amazon and Mill partner to reduce food waste at Whole Foods by converting scraps into chicken feed. Starting in 2027, fruit and vegetable scraps will be repurposed, supporting Whole Foods' egg suppliers.
Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) has recently formed a partnership with Mill Industries Inc. to launch a unique initiative at Whole Foods Market stores designed to minimize in-store food wastage. The collaboration will see Whole Foods as the initial adopter of Mill Commercial, an advanced food recycling system with automated and high-capacity capabilities. Starting in 2027, fruit and vegetable scraps generated from back-of-house operations will be processed by Mill's technologies to create a nutrient-enriched ingredient utilized in chicken feed, thereby supporting Whole Foods' in-house egg producers. This innovative approach is part of Amazon's ongoing efforts to address environmental sustainability and food waste issues in retail operations.
