# Ministry of Commerce: Encourage consumers to earn points by purchasing green products, which can be used to redeem discounts on goods or service benefits

The State Council Information Office held a press conference on promoting green consumption. Sheng Qiuping, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Commerce, stated at the meeting that the market should play a leading role in constructing a green consumption points system. The Ministry of Commerce will support industry associations in exploring the establishment of a universal green consumption points system that can be redeemed both online and offline, guiding retail enterprises, e-commerce platforms, and others to standardize points collection. Consumers are encouraged to earn points by purchasing green products and using low-carbon services, which can be redeemed for discounts on goods or service benefits. For example, some use green certificates and green electricity to reduce energy costs; some establish "green consumption accounts" to incentivize green consumption behavior with multiple points; and others adopt an "Internet + recycling" model to provide discount coupons to support public welfare projects. These are all good practices, and the Ministry of Commerce will summarize and promote them in a timely manner. (China.com)
