Fiber optic prices soar, reports indicate that Guangdong Telecom has suspended two optical cable procurement projects
According to a report by the domestic media "C114 Communication Network," Guangdong Telecom announced in its notice that due to changes in project circumstances, this project is now suspended, and the restart time will be notified separately. In January of this year, Guangdong Telecom initiated two bidding projects for optical cable centralized procurement: the 2026 emergency demand framework procurement project for optical cables and the 2026 outdoor optical cable emergency demand framework procurement project. Among them, the highest bid limit for the 2026 emergency demand framework procurement project for optical cables is approximately RMB 8.7082 million, with the highest bid limit for the "GJYXFCH-1 core" optical cable being RMB 213.2718 per unit length kilometer. Bids exceeding the highest limit will be rejected.
The highest bid limit for the 2026 outdoor optical cable emergency demand framework procurement project is approximately RMB 48.199 million, with the highest bid limit for the "GYTA-single mode G.652D-24 core" optical cable being RMB 1,245 per unit length kilometer. Bids exceeding the highest limit will be rejected. Recently, both of these bidding projects have been suspended.
According to industry insiders, this is due to the recent surge in fiber optic prices, which has caused the cost of optical cables to exceed the bidding limits set by operators, leading manufacturers to be unwilling to bid. The price of G.652.D bare fiber has risen from less than RMB 20 per core kilometer to a rapid increase after entering 2026. The latest prices from some channels have even exceeded RMB 50 per core kilometer
