# T-Mobile Misses Subscriber Targets as Competition Heats Up

T-Mobile US, Inc. (TMUS, Financials) delivered a mixed fourth quarter report as intense wireless competition eroded its subscriber growth momentum. The company added 962,000 monthly bill-paying phone customers the most among the top three U.S. carriers but shy of analyst expectations.

Peter Osvaldik, the head of finance, said that heightened device centric competitiveness from competitors like Verizon made it harder to get people to join up. Competing offers, like "four lines for $100" bargains, also drew some customers away.

The company's revenue of $24.33 billion was slightly higher than expected. This was because more consumers chose premium plans that include streaming services like Netflix and Hulu. About 60% of new customers chose these higher-value categories.

Still, T-Mobile's cash flow expectation of up to $18.7 billion was lower than what analysts had expected because of the continuing costs of integrating its UScellular acquisition. After the announcement, shares slid 3.4% in premarket trade.
