# "Big Banks" Citigroup: The AI App Competition Heats Up, Driving Growth in Advertising Spending

Citi published a report stating that AI Apps have now become a key driver of advertising expenditure growth in China, with various parties competing for user traffic and attention to establish their dominance in the AI era. The bank expects that the annual advertising expenditure for AI applications will reach hundreds of billions of RMB this year, growing by 60% to 70% year-on-year. The rising user acquisition costs are boosting the revenue and profit margins of advertising platforms.

Baidu (BIDU.US) and Kuaishou (01024.HK) also benefit but face challenges in inventory and conversion. Weibo (WB.US) and Focus Media (002027.SZ) primarily focus on brand advertising, with Focus Media occupying a unique position in the offline advertising sector through its collaboration with Alibaba (BABA.US)
