He added that the infrastructure for robots was being built "right before your eyes." > If you're downplaying the humanoid robot economy, you're making the same mistake some people made about the internet in 1993. "People don't get it," said the Tesla CEO, who has been bullish about the company's Optimus humanoid robot, touting it as a means to colonize other planets by becoming the first-ever von Neumann probe. > People don't get it > > — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) March 10, 2026 ## Elon Musk On Optimus Musk also predicted that the company would be able to develop AGI (artificial general intelligence) and would "probably" be the first to develop the said technology in a humanoid form. Interestingly, Tesla, during its Q4 earnings report, announced it was sunsetting the production of the premium Model S and Model X vehicles, which are produced at Tesla's Fremont, California, facility. Following this move, the facility will instead focus on Optimus' production, targeting 1 million units per year for the robot. ## Tesla Reveals Optimus Hands Musk, on several occasions, has shared that building hands for the robot has been one of the most challenging stages of its development, given its complex design.
