The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index rose 2.7% on Wednesday, marking its 16th consecutive day of gains—the longest streak since records began in 1994. Over this rally, the index has climbed approximately 39%, positioning April as potentially the strongest single-month performance since February 2000

U.S. semiconductor stocks have set an all-time record for the longest consecutive winning streak, driven by investor expectations that the sector will experience robust growth fueled by demand related to artificial intelligence.

The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index rose 2.7% on Wednesday, achieving its 16th consecutive day of gains—the longest streak since records began in 1994. Over this rally, the index has accumulated a gain of approximately 39%, making April likely to become the month with the largest single-month increase since February 2000.

This rally serves as the latest example of chip stocks leading the broader U.S. equity market. The launch of ChatGPT ignited the modern AI era and propelled this multi-year trend. Major companies are making massive investments in AI-related infrastructure, particularly driving surging demand for chips.

Industry experts stated: "Driven by AI, demand is exceptionally strong, and large-scale investment in AI is expected to continue well into the foreseeable future. From both valuation and growth perspectives, the sector remains attractive, benefiting not only semiconductor stocks broadly but also the overall market."

According to Bloomberg data, the semiconductor industry is projected to see revenue grow by approximately 57% in 2026—twice the growth rate of the broader technology sector and far exceeding the S&P 500's estimated 9.3% expansion.

NVIDIA has emerged as the standout representative of the industry and the AI field, arguably serving as a barometer for the entire economy. Over the past five years, the chipmaker's stock price has surged more than 1,200%, pushing its market capitalization close to $5 trillion and making it the world's most valuable company.

Other major winners of the AI era include Broadcom (up over 800% in the past five years), Micron Technology (up over 460%), and AMD (up over 260%). Intel has lagged behind over the past five years but has shown strong recent performance, with its stock price rising to its highest level since 2000 amid growing market confidence in its successful execution of an ambitious transformation strategy.

Overall, the semiconductor index has more than tripled, posting gains exceeding twice those of the Nasdaq-100.
