# Friend's General Manager and Group Chief Operating Officer, Ke Fu-Ren, received the "David Sarnoff Industry Outstanding Contribution Award."

The Society for Information Display (SID) announced during the global display industry event—Display Week 2026—that Dr. Frank Ko, General Manager and Chief Operating Officer of AU Optronics (2409), was awarded the highest honor, the "David Sarnoff Outstanding Contribution Award." Dr. Ko has dedicated nearly thirty years to the display field, combining technical innovation with corporate strategic thinking, and has created new value in collaboration with ecosystem partners along the industry's evolution.

The "David Sarnoff Outstanding Contribution Award" recognizes outstanding individuals in the display industry who are widely acknowledged for driving industry progress through innovation and leadership. Dr. Ko has accumulated a deep technical foundation and comprehensive industry experience. At critical turning points in the industry's evolution, he has continuously provided new value to displays through insights into trends and markets, collaborating with his team to achieve transformation and breakthroughs in technology, products, and application services. He has successfully broken the color limitations of electronic paper technology, expanding it into more diverse and extensive markets. In recent years, under the strategic direction of AU Optronics, he has also accelerated the mass production of advanced Micro LED display technology and further integrated display with AI applications, developing high-value-added field solutions that deepen the diverse applications and commercialization of displays, injecting growth momentum into the industry and gaining recognition from peers.

Dr. Frank Ko, General Manager and Chief Operating Officer of AU Optronics, stated: "I am deeply honored to receive the recognition of the David Sarnoff Outstanding Contribution Award; this honor also belongs to all participants who have long been committed to the display industry. From energy-saving and sustainable electronic paper to the innovative display form of Micro LED, AU Optronics combines global innovative energy with strong manufacturing capabilities, bringing forward-looking technologies into mass production and practical applications. This is also the shared belief of AU Optronics and SID, responding to people's needs with the power of display technology to bring more meaningful and valuable experiences to the world."

As Taiwan is renowned globally as a technology island, Dr. Ko also conveyed the shared belief reflected in the collaboration between AU Optronics and its value chain partners—the next generation of the display industry will not win in homogeneous competition but will dare to take a differentiated path. Based on this foundation, combining the three pillars of "display technology," "smart mobility," and "vertical fields" constructed by AU Optronics' value transformation, the group promotes the complete construction of the upstream and downstream ecosystem of Micro LED display technology, helping Taiwan's industry lead the global market and realize the vision of Micro LED displays entering daily life. With its transparent and versatile characteristics, it becomes an excellent carrier for human-machine interaction in the thriving new landscape of AI applications, providing innovative service solutions for diverse fields such as smart retail, healthcare, education, and enterprises.

At the same time, aligning software and AI to define automotive trends, Micro LED displays are utilized in human-machine interfaces in the smart mobility field, redefining the driving experience. Through cross-border resource integration, the group combines three major aspects: display human-machine interfaces, automotive computing, and smart vehicle connectivity, providing smart cockpit and mobility service solutions, co-creating new opportunities with partners in the rapidly evolving global automotive industry Friends are also making forward-looking layouts under the AI trend, extending their optoelectronic integration capabilities, breaking people's perceptions of traditional display technologies, and creating market differentiation niches. By applying waveguides in AR glasses and combining mature processes of nano-imprinting technology, they achieve lightweight and excellent color performance, further unlocking the potential of AR and AI integration.

At the same time, they are leveraging group resources to invest in Micro LED Co-Packaged Optics, supporting future applications in AI high-speed computing and data center scenarios; on the other hand, through sensing technology combined with glass substrates to create low-orbit satellite antenna modules, they support real-time connectivity for smart vehicles, providing users with higher quality mobility services. These core technologies originating from the display industry will bring more possibilities to people's lives in the near future through a new lease of life.

As a long-term key promoter of SID and the international display industry's development, Kuo Fu-jen spans technology, industry, and ecosystem construction, continuously promoting cross-border dialogue and cooperation. He has also served as the chairman of the Taiwan Display Union Association (TDUA), promoting supply chain integration and international connections, enhancing the role of the display industry in the global value chain. Looking ahead, Kuo Fu-jen will continue to connect global innovation ecosystems, promoting the deep integration of display technology with AI, mobile applications, and diverse fields, creating long-term value for the next stage of development in the global display industry
