Haisco will conduct drug discovery and early-stage research and development of up to five innovative drug programs identified by Eli Lilly, leveraging its proprietary small-molecule innovative technology platform, the Chengdu-based company announced yesterday, citing the deal inked on May 29. Once the innovative drugs are developed, Eli Lilly will own their exclusive commercialization rights for all territories outside China, while Haisco will retain the rights of certain products in the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, according to the agreement. Haisco will receive upfront and near-term payments of up to USD87 million and no more than USD3 billion in downstream milestone payments. It will also be eligible for single-digit tiered royalties on future product sales. Haisco develops therapies covering anesthetic analgesia, respiratory diseases, oncology, autoimmune disorders, and chronic illnesses. Its self-developed anesthetic drug Cipepofol Injection became the first innovative intravenous anesthetic made in China to be approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the US market at the end of last month. Haisco’s shares \[SHE: 002653\] were trading down 2.4 percent at CNY48.95 (USD7.23) as of 10.30 a.m. in Shenzhen today, after opening up 2 percent.
