# COSCO Shipping Energy Tanks Surges 8% as Hormuz Strait Reopening Boils Over

COSCO Shipping Energy Tanker (1138.HK) surged 8% in Hong Kong trading to HK$16.70, with turnover reaching HK$281 million.

The move comes following peace agreement between the U.S. and Iran, intensifying expectations for reopening of the Hormuz Strait. Goldman Sachs research suggests the opening would reverse prior oil tanker capacity overhang of approximately 9% to 11% caused by blockades. Global crude restocking demand is estimated at around 5% if Gulf exports normalize by late July.

The broker projects VLCC daily charter rates could hit $250,000 in the first year of reopening, significantly above the baseline forecast of $150,000. Multiple major banks have also upgraded the stock recently, with price targets sighted at HK$27, viewing recent weakness as erosion of panic restocking confidence rather than fundamental deterioration in the sector.
