# The One Grain Foundation partners with 7-ELEVEN to launch the "Hualien-Taitung Care: Eat Well" coin donation fundraising campaign

Last year's 923 flood severely impacted Hualien's Guangfu, with mud covering homes and many elderly residents in townships facing serious disruptions in their lives. To accompany the elderly in Hualien and Taitung through the post-disaster reconstruction journey, the One Grain of Wheat Social Welfare Foundation has partnered with 7-ELEVEN's "Bring Back Love" charity fundraising platform to jointly launch the "Hualien and Taitung Care: Eat Well" charity fundraising campaign from June to August this year, hoping that everyone can join the "Spare Change Superhero" initiative to donate spare change and continue to support meal care for the elderly in Hualien and Taitung townships.

The One Grain of Wheat Foundation, which has long cared for elderly residents living alone in townships, has collaborated with 7-ELEVEN's "Bring Back Love" charity fundraising platform, with over 7,300 stores across Taiwan responding simultaneously. The public can go to the stores to directly drop off spare change or participate in online donations through ibon or the OPENPOINT APP, turning spare change into tangible support and companionship for the long-term recovery of the elderly in Hualien and Taitung.

This campaign, themed "Hualien and Taitung Care: Eat Well," has specially invited Yu Hongyuan, who has returned to the entertainment industry after a 10-year hiatus, to serve as the "Care Team Leader" at the press conference, becoming the focus of the event. Yu Hongyuan even warmly presented a piggy bank where she usually saves spare change, leading the way in responding to the spare change donation initiative, calling on everyone to activate the "Spare Change Magnification Technique" and join the "Spare Change Superhero" ranks, turning spare change into a great love that protects the meals of the elderly in Hualien and Taitung, ensuring that every act of kindness translates into warm support on the dining tables of the elderly in the region.

Reflecting on last year's 923 flood in Hualien's Guangfu Township, heavy rainfall caused road interruptions and communication failures, with large areas of the urban area covered by mudflows and homes inundated. The One Grain of Wheat Foundation's Hualien center, located in the urban area of Guangfu Township, saw its central kitchen and meal delivery team completely damaged. Many frontline staff and volunteers were also affected, with some staff unable to rescue their mothers in time; there were also volunteers whose homes were directly destroyed by the flood, with mud reaching waist-deep and water levels rising to 190 cm, severely damaging their homes, yet they still engaged in post-disaster cleanup and meal delivery services, demonstrating the resilience and sense of mission of frontline volunteers in the face of disaster.

The chairman of the One Grain of Wheat Foundation, Lu Xinxiong, stated that caring for elderly residents in townships is indeed not an easy task, especially given the vulnerabilities of these areas. For example, in the case of meal care, major disasters can pose risks of interruption to meal delivery and communal dining. After this flood, the One Grain of Wheat Foundation's team worked hard to support with other meal preparation kitchens and restored meal delivery through motorcycle relays and detours, delivering hot meals to the homes of the elderly. He particularly thanked all sectors and the 7-ELEVEN "Bring Back Love" charity fundraising platform for providing immediate support to the elderly in Hualien Guangfu, assisting in the reconstruction of the meal delivery network and becoming an important support for post-disaster recovery in remote areas.

The One Grain of Wheat Foundation has collaborated with 7-ELEVEN's "Bring Back Love" charity fundraising platform for over 11 years, delivering more than 3.65 million meals in total. They care for approximately 1,000 elderly residents across seven counties and cities who have a high need for social resources, including about 400 elderly residents living in townships in Hualien and Taitung. The One Grain of Wheat Foundation's care is not only about ensuring the elderly are "full," but also about creating a daily care support system that allows elderly residents in townships to live with peace of mind The chairman of the One Grain Foundation, Lü Xinxiong, stated that in response to the annual service of up to 250,000 meals, the donations collected from 7-ELEVEN's spare change campaign from June to August this year will be invested in long-term recovery in Hualien and Taitung, focusing on building "disaster resilience in service" and "preventive care."

The hardware investment will include repairs and disaster prevention reinforcements, continuously updating and expanding cooking equipment damaged in last year's disasters, while simultaneously strengthening disaster protection measures, such as equipment reinforcement and flood prevention upgrades, to prepare for possible extreme weather or earthquake disasters this year. Additionally, efforts will be made to enhance the resilience of meal delivery logistics in the mountainous towns of Hualien and Taitung, including purchasing safer vehicles to ensure that during natural disasters or when roads are damaged, meals or emergency supplies can still be reliably delivered to remote villages via alternative routes. At the same time, the use of the store network will be strengthened, expanding the "7-ELEVEN meal voucher" mechanism, allowing elderly individuals to use a NT$120 meal voucher at nearby 7-ELEVEN stores to flexibly receive fresh food 24 hours a day when disasters disrupt roads or volunteers cannot attend, thereby reducing the risk of meal shortages.

In terms of preventive care, the focus will be on the disaster nutrition package mechanism, preparing disaster nutrition supplies known as "Wheat Fortune Boxes" in advance for remote areas that are prone to becoming isolated. These boxes will contain high-nutrition, long-lasting ready-to-eat food and daily necessities, which will be prioritized for distribution before the issuance of weather warnings to reduce the risk of food shortages for the elderly. Additionally, the community social network will be restructured to gradually strengthen the functions of community dining spots and companionship, assisting the elderly in stepping out of their homes and interacting with neighbors through health promotion activities, volunteer care, and interaction, allowing the psychological pressure accumulated since the disaster to gradually be released and helping them regain their focus on life.

Lü Xinxiong emphasized that meal delivery is not just about providing the elderly with a meal, but also about making all caring actions an important companionship and safety support for the elderly in the towns. He hopes that through nationwide spare change donations, the physical and mental health of the elderly in Hualien and Taitung can be continuously safeguarded.

7-ELEVEN stated that the Hualien and Taitung regions were significantly impacted by major floods last year, and the love from the "Shovel Supermen" across Taiwan helped Hualien and Taitung withstand the disaster losses. 7-ELEVEN will also continue to accompany the elderly in Hualien and Taitung on their important recovery journey. Through its extensive store network and 24/7 digital platform, 7-ELEVEN aims to gather the love of the public, allowing people to not only donate spare change at physical stores but also to donate via ibon, and to make online donations, spare change donations, or point donations anytime and anywhere through the OPENPOINT APP, transforming the difficult act of giving into a simple way to provide essential support for the elderly in Hualien and Taitung. At the same time, local stores will continue to serve as a supportive backbone for local service organizations, assisting with meal pickups, meal vouchers, nutritional supplements, and more.

Lin Muquan, the executive director of the One Grain Foundation, further pointed out that it has been about six months since the Hualien floods occurred. Although basic living functions have gradually recovered, many elderly individuals are beginning to show signs of psychological trauma. He noted, "Mud can be cleaned, but the wounds in the heart require longer companionship." The foundation's meal delivery service not only provides meals but also carries the daily safety check and frontline care functions, including the immediate detection of emergencies such as elderly individuals falling or feeling unwell In the Hualien and Taitung townships, delivery workers and social workers are often the only people that elderly individuals living alone come into contact with, and they serve as an important support system.

Therefore, the collaboration between the Grain of Wheat Foundation and the 7-ELEVEN "Bring Love Back" public fundraising platform has extended from emergency assistance after disasters to long-term care initiatives. Through stable meal supply and continuous daily companionship, they aim to create an "uninterrupted" care line for the elderly in the townships.

After a 10-year hiatus, artist Yu Hongyuan made a heartfelt appearance at a charity event, transforming into the "Care Squad Leader." Not only did she warmly interact and chat with the elderly, but she also personally delivered a "Care Warm Basket," symbolizing concern and support, to cheer them on. The atmosphere at the event was warm and touching.

The "Care Warm Basket" includes fresh fruits provided by 7-ELEVEN, as well as thoughtfully prepared meal replacement dry goods and daily necessities. This is to ensure that the elderly can still stock up on supplies and not go hungry during bad weather or when meal deliveries are paused on holidays. The design concept of the warm basket is further derived from the Grain of Wheat Foundation's disaster preparedness "Wheat Blessing Box," symbolizing that during disasters, all sectors of society can still be the most reliable warm support for the elderly. Yu Hongyuan also specially appeared holding her "piggy bank," where she usually saves spare change, to actively respond to the spare change donation campaign. She called on everyone to initiate the "Spare Change Magnification Technique" and join the ranks of "Spare Change Superheroes," turning everyday small change into a warm force to protect meals and daily care for the elderly in rural Hualien and Taitung, accompanying them through the path of post-disaster reconstruction
