Zhongfu Shenying \[SHA: 688295\], a unit of state-owned China National Building Material Group, soared 8.5 percent to CNY61.30 (USD9.02) per share as of 11 a.m. in Shanghai today. Zhongfu Shenying put a four-meter-wide T1100-grade high-performance carbon fiber line with an annual output of 1,000 tons, a 48K large-tow carbon fiber line with an annual output of 5,000 tons, and an M40 high-modulus carbon fiber line with an annual output of 600 tons in operation, the company said at a commissioning ceremony yesterday. Each line is the world's largest in its respective category. The T1100 high-performance carbon fiber is used in aerospace hardware, including space stations, launch vehicles, and low-altitude aircraft, with the project to bolster China's supply security of critical aerospace raw materials, according to Zhongfu Shenying. The 48K large-tow carbon fiber will be mainly supplied to offshore wind power, hydrogen storage cylinder, and new energy vehicle clients, while the M40 high-modulus carbon fiber is primarily applied to high-end precision equipment, sporting goods, and 3C (computers, communications, and consumer) products. The three new lines are the first phase of a project Zhongfu Shenying unveiled in January 2023, which involved investing almost CNY6 billion (USD822.6 million) to build facilities with an annual production capacity of 30,000 tons of high-performance carbon fiber. The new high-performance carbon fiber project serves as a landmark initiative enabling China's carbon fiber industry to break through overseas high-end technical barriers and reach world-class advanced levels, bearing far-reaching strategic significance upon its launch, Shen Jianrong, vice governor of Jiangsu, said at the ceremony. The launch of the three lines marks a new milestone in high-end product layout and large-scale manufacturing development for China's carbon fiber sector, Zhou Yuxian, chairman of CNBM, said to media, including Yicai, at the site of the project. The new lines adopt flexible production technology capable of manufacturing carbon fiber products of multiple grades, Zhongfu Shenying noted. Once the project is fully operational, it will greatly expand the company's carbon fiber product portfolio and boost its large-scale supply capacity. In addition, the expansion will substantially strengthen Zhongfu Shenying's comprehensive competitiveness and lift its market share across various downstream segmented application sectors, according to the company. Carbon fiber is a fibrous material with a carbon content exceeding 90 percent. Its density is less than a quarter that of steel, yet its tensile strength is seven to 10 times higher, while it also outperforms all chemical fibers in high-temperature resistance.
