# Silvercorp Temporarily Slows China Mines as New Safety Rules Bite

Silvercorp Metals ( (TSE:SVM) ) has shared an update.

On June 29, 2026, Silvercorp Metals said it would temporarily slow operations at its Ying and GC mines in China after new nationwide safety measures were imposed following a fatal coal mine accident in Shanxi Province in late May. Chinese regulators launched cross-sector inspections of all mines, requiring comprehensive risk reviews and upgrades to the “Six Major Safety Systems” and other certified safety equipment.

Silvercorp’s self-review identified non-compliances, prompting suspension of operations at Ying and GC while five certified vendors complete safety system installations at non-compliant mining levels over roughly 50 days at a cost of about US$5.5 million, plus US$6 million for facility and equipment upgrades. The company expects production at Ying to fall 40–50% and at GC about 50% in the July–September quarter, with a 10–15% impact in the current quarter, as phased approvals allow gradual resumption of output.
