# The Survival Game in Biotech: A De-Listed R&D Firm's USD 150M Pivot

On June 1, 2026, seasoned executive Jeffrey M. Busch stepped into the role of interim chief executive at **Aditxt (ADTX.US)**. Busch had previously built a healthcare real estate firm that surpassed **USD 1B** in enterprise value. Now, he was taking the helm of a radically different enterprise: a biotech firm that had just been delisted from the Nasdaq and reported a net loss of **USD 15.9M** in the first quarter of 2026.

His arrival captures a broader reality in the U.S. biotech research and development sector today. It highlights how companies focused on long-term genomic medicines and preclinical therapeutics are being forced into aggressive pivots when the capital markets' patience runs dry.

This is a fundamentally different sector sitting in 2026 than it was when Aditxt was founded in 2017. Back then, armed with licensing agreements from Stanford University and Loma Linda University, the company set out to map and reprogram the immune system. Its flagship **AditxtScore** and **Apoptotic DNA Immunotherapy (ADI-100)** aimed to tackle organ transplant rejection and Type 1 diabetes. Yet, the long arc of clinical validation met the harsh demands of public markets. To maintain its listing, the company engaged in a brutal series of reverse stock splits—1-for-113 in November 2025, 1-for-8 in March 2026, and finally **1-for-27** in mid-May. Despite these maneuvers, the stock significantly underperformed the broader market this year, and the company ultimately lost its Nasdaq status.

Busch and his team had decided to shift focus — and then came the transaction involving its subsidiary, **Ignite Proteomics**. In early June, Aditxt signed a definitive agreement valuing the subsidiary at approximately **USD 150M**. A day prior, Ignite launched a prospective registry study designed to enroll **10,000 cancer patients**. The goal is to evaluate its functional proteomics platform in guiding the selection of antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) and immunotherapies.

The science has already caught the attention of heavyweights: an April 2026 study from the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute demonstrated the platform's predictive value for HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer patients treated with Enhertu. The new registry study is expected to generate around **USD 13M** in revenue for Ignite. What could happen if this targeted proteomics approach successfully bridges the gap between clinical validation and immediate commercial revenue? The tension remains unresolved. For R&D biotechs, visionary science is merely the baseline; financial survival requires rapid, tangible breakthroughs.
