As of the time of publication, the Southern Double Long Samsung Electronics (07747) fell 14.27% to HKD 126.45; the Southern Double Long SK Hynix (07709) dropped 12.6% to HKD 95. On the news front, on July 7, the South Korean stock market opened with a plunge, with the KOSPI index falling over 4%. In terms of individual stocks, Samsung Electronics dropped over 6% after its earnings report, while SK Hynix fell more than 4%. Samsung Electronics' preliminary performance for the second quarter of 2026 showed that the company's revenue and profit both surged due to the continued rise in storage chip prices driven by AI. Notably, the quarterly operating profit reached an all-time high, exceeding market expectations. According to preliminary results, Samsung Electronics' operating profit for the period from April to June this year was KRW 89.4 trillion, soaring 18 times compared to KRW 4.7 trillion in the same period last year. It is worth noting that despite the impressive performance of the storage business, Samsung's overall performance still faces internal structural pressures.
