# Telstra Restores Services After Outage That Hit Trains, Payments — Update

By Stuart Condie

SYDNEY--Telstra said it has fully restored mobile and data services, after Australia's largest network suffered intermittent outages that halted trains and hit payments.

Telstra on Wednesday said it had fully restored services nationwide by 4 p.m. Sydney time. It said the issue began at about 4:30 a.m. Sydney time and had been caused by server problems at company-owned data centers in Sydney and Melbourne.

The servers, or nodes, help keep time across the network and weren't operating as expected, Telstra Chief Financial Officer Michael Ackland said.

The ASX-listed company said the outage didn't result from a cyberattack.

"We are still conducting our investigation into the root cause, but we are confident we have identified a software defect and have been able to isolate it," Ackland said.

The public transport operator in New South Wales state, which includes Sydney, said some services were disrupted by the issue. Payments provider Tyro said some of its terminals were experiencing outages.
