The organiser of Ani-Com & Games Hong Kong (ACGHK) on Wednesday announced that its 27th edition would be able to accommodate 38,000 participants, 7,000 more than last year’s event, and host a record 201 exhibitors, up from 160 in 2025. The event will run from July 24 to 28 in Halls 1, 3 and 5FG of the Convention and Exhibition Centre, with a one-way visitor flow to improve crowd management. Leading Japanese voice actor Kawanishi Kengo, best known for voicing Muichiro Tokito in Demon Slayer, and popular virtual idols will grace the stage for highly anticipated performances and fan meet-and-greets. “Dig Dig Island”, curated by renowned animator and toy collector Neco Lo Che-ying, will showcase and sell designer toys, vintage collectibles, and precious comic manuscripts. Renowned director Oxide Pang Chun will display a curated selection from his personal collection of locally made toys from the 1950s to the 1960s, while dozens of antique toys produced in Hong Kong and Japan, including cars, ships, and robots, will be sold at special prices. The Brothersfree collective of Winson Ma Che-hung, William Tsang Chi-wai and Kenny Wong Shun-ming – later known for creating Pop Mart’s beloved character Molly – will present their very first and latest creations to celebrate their 25th anniversary. Hongkonger William Wong, who holds the Guinness World Record for the largest collection of The Nightmare Before Christmas toys, will also display part of his curation, including one of the first toys from the franchise, produced in 1993. Wong, who had 2,000 such toys in 2014 when he held the world record, now owns 3,000. A new segment, “Comix Pop”, will gather 40 Hong Kong comic masters along with emerging stars. This includes Jerry Cho Chi-ho, winner of the bronze award at the Japan International Manga Award for his work The Life After Life. The artists would offer new books, artworks and original merchandise for fans to splurge on, said Alan Wan Siu-lun, vice-president of the Hong Kong Comics and Animation Federation. “In the age of AI \[artificial intelligence\], it is a rare opportunity to be able to appreciate so many original manuscripts,” he said. During an interactive session with fans, artists will do live sketches at exclusive on-site prices. “If you are a fan of their works, you can request that they draw you your favourite manga characters,” he said. “I hope everyone brings enough money to the event to support the artists.” The event will also showcase works by 17 up-and-coming original IPs under the fifth Comics Support Programme. “In recent years, many Hong Kong artists’ works have won international prizes and been signed by nearly 50 overseas publishers,” Wan said. “This proves that Hong Kong comics have international appeal and can attract the global market on their own merit.” Tickets will go on sale from Friday at designated 7-Eleven and Circle K convenience stores. The on-site ticketing booth will sell walk-in tickets only to tourists. A standard ticket costs HK$50 (US$6.4), while an express ticket allowing queue-skipping is priced at HK$150.
