# Inside the AI Hardware Boom: USD 250M Orders and Next-Gen Optical Links

The industry's focus this week remains firmly on the underlying expansion of the AI compute supply chain. I'm told that as hyperscale data centers dramatically ramp up demand for 800G and 1.6T optical transceivers, upstream chip equipment and photonics material suppliers are seeing the most significant overhaul in order volumes and technological upgrades so far this year.

### Veeco Instruments (VECO.US)

As a core provider of semiconductor process equipment, Veeco has recently delivered an eye-catching performance. According to people familiar with the matter, the company secured a massive order exceeding USD 250 million in early May 2026, primarily for manufacturing Indium Phosphide (InP) lasers. Sources close to the supply chain indicate that deliveries for these systems, including the Spector IBD, will begin later this year and accelerate significantly into 2027. During its Q1 2026 earnings, despite a slight total revenue dip to USD 158.3 million, its nanosecond annealing systems successfully landed critical follow-on orders from a leading logic customer.

### Lightwave Logic (LWLG.US)

At another crucial node of data communications, fabless photonics player Lightwave Logic is accelerating its commercialization efforts. I've learned that the company just rolled out version 1.1 of its polymer photonics Process Design Kit (PDK) in May 2026. Insiders point out that this move is designed to break down integration barriers with standard foundry processes. Coupled with its previous expanded partnership with Polariton Technologies for high-speed AI optical links, the company is positioning itself to dominate the low-power modulator space. For 2025, its net sales more than doubled while operating losses narrowed.

### Pacific Biosciences (PACB.US)

The tentacles of AI infrastructure are also reaching into biological computing. Long-read sequencing giant PacBio has been making consecutive moves recently. According to internal sources, the company was selected by Basecamp Research in May 2026 to power a massive trillion-gene mapping project involving roughly 100,000 samples. Furthermore, it forged a compatibility partnership with Lucid Genomics in April to advance tertiary analysis. Looking at its Q4 2025 financials, the USD 44.6 million in total revenue and vastly improved operating margins suggest its hardware adoption in complex health research is steadily rising.
