SYDNEY--Vicki Brady, the chief executive of communication giant Telstra, apologized to customers for the failure of the company's network earlier this week.
"We have let our customers and Australians down, a for that I am deeply sorry," Brady told reporters on Friday.
Brady, who was out of the country on holiday when the network outage occurred, acknowledged the disruption to the business payments systems, transport networks, and the inability of some customers to make calls to emergency services.
"I understand how much Australians rely on us to keep in touch, to work, and stay safe," Brady said.
"It's extremely frustrating and disruptive when services aren't available, and I am sorry for the impact that this has had on so many people," she added.
Brady said the cause of the outage was known and full investigation was underway.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has also been briefed on the situation, she added.
The nationwide issue began on Wednesday at about 4:30 a.m. Australian Eastern Standard Time, with the company saying server problems at company-owned data centers in Sydney and Melbourne were the cause.
Telstra has also said it has found no evidence that the outage was due to hacking.
