(NIO) stock was up about 2% in Monday's pre-market trading after Goldman Sachs analyst Tina Hou upgraded her rating on the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker to Buy from Hold, with a price target of $7.00 (HK$55). The analyst added that these launches have reinforced Nio's brand strength and position in the premium NEV (new energy vehicle) market, giving the company a stronger competitive moat that is harder for rivals to challenge. Furthermore, Hou believes Nio can replicate this strategy across its 5-series and 6-series models, helping revive sales of these vehicles in 2027 and beyond and fueling continued market share gains. The analyst highlighted that despite the 14% year-over-year decline in the Chinese NEV market in the first half of 2026, Nio expanded its volume by 67%. For 2026, Hou expects Nio to deliver year-over-year volume and revenue growth of 43% and 60%, respectively. She expects the company to report non-GAAP net profit of RMB 1.6 billion in 2026, marking a significant improvement from a loss of RMB 12.4 billion last year. Also, Hou expects Nio to report free cash flow of RMB 12.1 billion this year, reflecting a major jump from a negative RMB 3.1 billion in 2025. Hou contends that the 6% year-to-date decline in Nio stock is "disconnected" from the EV maker's improving fundamentals. Specifically, compared with pure-play NEV players under Goldman's coverage, Nio stock is trading at a 25% discount to the 2026 estimated price-to-sales, a 29% discount to the 2027 estimated price-to-sales, and a 17% discount to the 2027 estimated price-to-earnings multiple. Overall, Hou believes that Nio's valuation is attractive, given its near-term product momentum and solid growth prospects. ## **Is NIO Stock a Buy, Hold, or Sell?** Prior to Goldman's upgrade, Wall Street had a Hold consensus rating on Nio stock based on two Buys, two Holds, and one Sell.
