# Top 20 U.S. Stock Trading Volumes on July 18: Reports suggest Meta is leasing computing power from Anthropic worth up to $10 billion

On Friday, Micron Technology, the top stock by trading volume in the U.S. market, closed down 0.5% with a trading volume of $53.876 billion. The stock has declined in five out of the last six trading days, with a cumulative drop of 13.31% this week.

NVIDIA, the second highest, fell 2.21% with a trading volume of $29.147 billion. During Friday's trading session, Apple's market value briefly surpassed NVIDIA's, reclaiming the title of the world's most valuable company for the first time in over a year. Investors are optimistic that this iPhone manufacturer can turn the tide in the artificial intelligence sector, while it does not need to invest massive capital expenditures for data centers like other large tech giants, which come with increasing risks.

By the end of trading, NVIDIA's market value once again surpassed Apple's, narrowly holding onto the title of the world's most valuable company.

SanDisk, ranked third, fell 4.02% with a trading volume of $27.488 billion. The stock has dropped over 29% this week, with three out of the last four weeks recording weekly declines.

Meta Platforms, ranked sixth, fell 2.79% with a trading volume of $14.104 billion. Reports indicate that Meta Platforms is in preliminary discussions with Anthropic to lease its data center computing power to the latter. This collaboration will last for two years and could be worth up to $10 billion.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Meta is planning to launch a cloud computing business, which includes the possibility of leasing computing power to other companies.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg previously stated in an interview with Bloomberg that all of the company's computing power is currently used for internal projects, but the market offers for computing power are quite substantial, prompting him to consider leasing some of it externally.

Zuckerberg remarked at the time: "The market offers for computing power are very high, and in some cases, it may be more cost-effective to lease computing power or consider such transactions rather than using it for internal projects."

Tesla, ranked ninth, fell 2.61% with a trading volume of $11.635 billion. The stock has dropped 6.6% this week.

SpaceX, ranked twelfth, fell 5.43% with a trading volume of $10.383 billion. As of Friday's close, the stock has declined for six consecutive trading days. On Thursday, the Starship rocket's test flight was aborted at the last moment, and combined with the stock's ongoing volatility since its listing, SpaceX's stock weakened again on Friday.

The launch window was originally scheduled to open at 5:45 PM Texas time on Thursday for a 90-minute duration to conduct a test flight of the Starship heavy rocket, but an engine ignition failure forced the company to cancel the launch.

Elon Musk posted on X platform: "Multiple engines failed to ignite, triggering the automatic launch termination system. We are currently venting propellant and expect to attempt another launch in a few days."

Musk later added that two Raptor engines would be removed and replaced, with the next launch planned for early next week.

SpaceX completed the largest initial public offering in history in June this year, raising up to $85.7 billion at an issue price of $135, with the stock price fluctuating significantly after listing, leading investors to pay close attention to every rocket test flight result.

This is the first test flight of the third-generation Starship since SpaceX went public. The previous round of testing in May also ended in failure: the Starship's second-stage rocket ultimately crashed into the Indian Ocean; five out of the 33 Raptor engines failed to reignite, and the overweight booster could not achieve a controlled recovery landing in the Gulf of Mexico Netflix, ranked 14th, fell 7.26% with a trading volume of $9.591 billion. The company's second-quarter earnings report was close to Wall Street expectations but announced it would reduce the frequency of user viewing behavior data disclosure.

The second-quarter earnings report released on Thursday showed revenue of $12.56 billion, a year-on-year increase of 13%. The company attributed the double-digit growth to increased advertising revenue, membership growth, and pricing adjustments. Chief Financial Officer Spencer Neumann stated during the earnings call that the price adjustments are "progressing well."

Despite achieving growth, Netflix's revenue was slightly below Wall Street's expectation of $12.59 billion, but earnings per share of $0.80 were slightly above the expected $0.79.

Additionally, the company narrowed its full-year revenue forecast range for 2026 from a previous $50.7 billion to $51.7 billion to $51.0 billion to $51.4 billion.

Netflix announced that the "What We Watched" viewing data report will change from semi-annual to annual, to be released in the first quarter of each year. The company stated, "Separating the report from the earnings results aims to focus attention on core financial metrics—revenue and operating profit. After this change, we will still provide industry-leading data on viewing hours for individual titles and total viewing time."

Co-CEO Greg Peters mentioned during the earnings call, "There is not a linear relationship between viewing hours and revenue and profit, as the value of all viewing hours is not the same, with live programming being a good example." Previously, Netflix had stopped disclosing subscription user numbers at the beginning of 2025.

Peters also pointed out that while live programming accounts for only 5% of the company's budget, it is expected to account for only 1% of total viewing hours. However, six of the top ten peak days for new registrations in the past five years occurred after live events.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), ranked 16th, fell 2.77% with a trading volume of $8.275 billion. The stock has dropped 8.2% this week. After the U.S. stock market closed on Friday, President Trump announced that TSMC would invest an additional $100 billion in Arizona.

Applied Materials, ranked 20th, fell 5.57% with a trading volume of $5.459 billion. The stock has dropped over 12% this week.
