# Selling Insider Information? Trump’s Truth Social Launches Paid API for Wall Street, Delivering Trump’s Tweets in “Milliseconds”

Trump Media & Tech is turning the President’s own social media posts into a business.

Trump Media & Tech (TMTG) announced on Thursday that it plans to launch a real-time data product called "Truth API" on August 1, selling direct data streams of posts from the Truth Social platform to investment institutions, with algorithmic trading firms as its primary target customers. The company stated that some customers have confirmed their intention to purchase, but did not disclose the names of the buyers.

Kevin McGurn, Interim CEO of TMTG, said in a statement, "The market already moves with Truth Social posts. Truth API will provide direct, licensed, real-time data streams of the platform’s most market-influential posts, while advancing the company’s strategy to monetize proprietary assets through high-margin, recurring revenue streams."

He expects the product to become a "meaningful source of recurring revenue for the company, creating lasting value for shareholders."

The launch of this new product has simultaneously triggered external legal and ethical questions about government officials monetizing the informational value generated by their official conduct.

The news failed to boost the company’s stock price. As of press time, TMTF was down 8.4% in Friday’s intraday trading.

## **Market Value of Trump’s Posts Drives New Product Launch**

The core appeal of Truth API lies in Trump’s own posts. Since Truth Social went live in February 2022, Trump has used it as his primary channel for direct written communication.

During his second term, Trump has announced dozens of major policy adjustments or military actions through the platform, with related posts repeatedly causing significant fluctuations in the stock market.

For algorithmic trading firms, where millisecond-level information advantages hold substantial commercial value, such data streams have direct trading application scenarios. Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) are a widely used method of data distribution in the technology and financial sectors; government agencies such as the Department of Labor and social media platform X already offer similar products.

In its announcement, TMTG positioned Truth API as a "high-margin, recurring revenue stream," but did not disclose specific pricing.

## **Conflict of Interest Controversy Emerges**

The core controversy sparked by this business model is whether government officials can privately monetize the informational value generated by their official conduct.

Tyler Gellasch, a former lawyer at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and head of the non-profit financial industry organization Healthy Markets Association, stated that the market demand for faster access to Trump’s posts is undeniable, but "the real question is, when it involves any type of government official, can they personally monetize this value?"

Trump indirectly holds approximately 53% of TMTG’s shares through a trust. The trust, managed by his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., was established in December 2024, one month before Trump officially took office, at a time when external concerns about potential conflicts of interest were escalating. As of Thursday’s close, the market value of Trump’s holdings exceeded $1 billion.

## **TMTG Accelerates Business Diversification**

Truth API is one of TMTG’s recent series of diversification attempts.

The company has previously ventured into streaming media and cryptocurrency, and last year reached a merger agreement with a nuclear fusion company—a move that would pit this presidential-affiliated company against other developers in the energy sector, which is precisely an area subject to both policy support and regulatory influence from the Trump administration.

User growth for Truth Social itself remains limited, and the company as a whole is still loss-making, with reliance on Trump’s posts constituting its main traffic source.

Kevin McGurn described Truth API as a strategic component of commercializing "proprietary assets," but this positioning itself—defining the current President’s public statements as sellable "proprietary assets"—is precisely the focal point of external skepticism.
