# It is reported that Meta plans to lease AI computing power to Anthropic, seeking commercial returns with a capital expenditure of $100 billion

According to informed sources, AI startup Anthropic is in preliminary discussions with Meta (META.US) to lease the latter's AI computing resources to meet the growing demands for large model training and inference.

This negotiation comes just weeks after Anthropic announced a similar collaboration with SpaceX (SPCX.US), owned by Elon Musk. At that time, Anthropic stated it would utilize the computing resources at SpaceX's Colossus 1 data center to enhance its service capabilities for paid subscription users.

Industry insiders believe that Anthropic's continuous pursuit of external computing collaborations reflects its status as one of the world's leading large model development companies, as it continues to ramp up its acquisition of NVIDIA (NVDA.US) AI chips and related computing resources to support model training and inference needs.

Currently, the sufficient supply of AI chips remains a significant challenge for AI companies like Anthropic. Due to limited computing resources, the company has imposed usage restrictions on some advanced models, including Fable.

Meanwhile, Meta is also actively seeking to convert its massive AI infrastructure investments into new revenue sources. In May of this year, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that the company is considering entering the cloud computing business, hoping to demonstrate to investors that AI investments can create new commercial value in addition to enhancing its existing social media business.

Market expectations suggest that Meta's capital expenditures could reach as high as $145 billion by 2026, with most of it directed towards AI infrastructure development.

Additionally, media reports confirm that Dave Brown, who has long served as an executive in Amazon (AMZN.US) cloud technology, is set to join Meta, which is seen as an important move for the company to further expand its AI infrastructure and cloud computing business.

In fact, Meta has long recognized the market demand for providing external computing services. Zuckerberg mentioned last October that many companies have been inquiring whether Meta would be willing to sell idle computing resources, even offering to pay above the company's procurement costs for the related computing capabilities.

If Meta ultimately reaches a collaboration with Anthropic, it is expected to open new monetization channels for its AI infrastructure investments and signifies that competition for high-end computing resources in the global AI industry is intensifying
