Michael Diana has given his Hold rating due to a combination of factors, balancing solid recent performance with a cautious outlook. He acknowledges that Westamerica Bancorporation delivered better-than-expected earnings in 2Q26, supported by a slight improvement in net interest margin and strong credit quality, but he sees limited upside as net interest income is likely to remain broadly stable rather than grow meaningfully.

At the same time, he anticipates a gradual reduction in the bank’s auto loan portfolio and modest pressure on profitability over the next few years, even after raising his EPS estimates. Although expense discipline and exceptionally low funding costs are clear strengths, the forecast of only marginal earnings growth and eventual decline leads him to view the shares as fairly valued, justifying a Hold rather than a more aggressive rating.

Diana covers the Financial sector, focusing on stocks such as Pennantpark, Saratoga Investment, and Westamerica Bancorporation. According to TipRanks, Diana has an average return of 4.8% and a 56.28% success rate on recommended stocks.

In another report released on July 16, KBW also maintained a Hold rating on the stock with a $64.00 price target.
