# Apple's market value briefly surpassed NVIDIA during trading, as market sentiment towards large capital expenditures in AI becomes more cautious

Affected by the cautious sentiment of the international capital market regarding the return cycle of large-scale infrastructure investment in artificial intelligence (AI), technology giant Apple Inc. briefly surpassed chip manufacturer NVIDIA in market capitalization during intraday trading on the 17th, reclaiming the title of the world's most valuable company. Although NVIDIA regained the lead at the end of the trading session, this change reflects that Wall Street funds are taking partial profits and adjusting their positions in the overly speculative AI sector.

During the trading session on the 17th, Apple's market capitalization soared to over $4.91 trillion, surpassing NVIDIA, which experienced a decline in stock price due to a collective sell-off of chip stocks. By the end of the day, NVIDIA's stock price fell by 2.21%, bringing its market capitalization back to $4.92 trillion, barely maintaining its position as the world's number one; Apple's stock price rose by 0.14%, with a market capitalization of $4.89 trillion. This marks the first time since April 2025 that Apple's market capitalization has returned to the top position globally during intraday trading.

Market analysis indicates that as technology giants' capital expenditures on AI model development and supporting data center construction have surged, investors are beginning to reassess whether such high investments can translate into substantial profit drivers in the short term. Toni Meadows, investment director at UK-based BRI Wealth Management, stated that Apple was previously viewed as lagging in the AI field for not blindly investing in model development, but at this stage, due to its lighter capital expenditure pressure and greater ability to monetize AI through hardware upgrades, ecosystem integration, and service businesses, market confidence in Apple's performance sustainability has significantly rebounded, gradually replacing the previous speculative bullishness on AI concepts.

Accompanying Apple's phase of market capitalization recovery is the loosening of the market dominance of the "Seven Giants" of U.S. tech stocks. Benjamin Hall, vice president of Alpha Research at Segal Macro Advisors, believes that as market volatility increases and opportunities in other sectors such as healthcare and finance emerge, funds are spreading from overly concentrated leading companies to other areas.

At the industry level, the competitive landscape in the international semiconductor and AI sectors is becoming more diversified. South Korean memory chip giant SK Hynix officially listed on NASDAQ this month, becoming another core target for investors assessing the AI hardware supply chain after Micron Technology's market capitalization surpassed $1 trillion. Additionally, with the expected IPOs of AI startups Anthropic and OpenAI, the parent company of ChatGPT, within the year, the market anticipates that more AI targets will divert current funding concentrated in a few chip giants
