General Motors is reportedly considering using the Wuling Bingo Pro, a popular electric vehicle (EV) in China, as its next entry-level EV. The US automaker is considering rebadging the all-electric Wuling Bingo Pro under the Chevrolet brand and selling it as an entry-level EV in emerging markets including Mexico and Brazil, automotive industry outlet GM Authority reported earlier this month, citing people familiar with the matter. GM could license the new all-electric model through SAIC-GM-Wuling, its joint venture with SAIC Motor (SSE: 600104), the report said, citing the people. Join us on Telegram or Google News GM is considering introducing the Bingo Pro largely because of growing demand for small zero-emission vehicles in high-volume emerging markets, including Mexico and Brazil, as well as densely populated urban areas across Latin America, Africa and Asia, according to the report. Small cars are often the first choice for young buyers in these markets and continue to command a significant market share. A rebadged Bingo Pro would become Chevrolet's first all-electric hatchback in those markets. SAIC-GM-Wuling initially launched the Bingo lineup in China in March 2023, targeting the country's affordable EV market. The Bingo Pro went on sale in China in May this year with a starting price of 56,800 yuan ($8,390), rising to 70,800 yuan. It offers 2 CLTC range options of 330 kilometers and 403 kilometers. The model is powered by a front-mounted single motor with a maximum output of 65 kW (87 hp) and uses a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. The Bingo Pro recorded wholesale sales of 21,085 units in June, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) compiled by CnEVPost. This would not be the first time GM has rebadged a model from SAIC-GM-Wuling. The company has previously introduced the Chevrolet Spark EUV, based on the Baojun Yep Plus, and the Captiva EV, based on the Wuling Starlight S. As with those models, the rebadged Bingo Pro is expected to receive some exterior design changes and adopt a separate model name, GM Authority noted.
