The upgrade reflects strong fundamentals, including solid firewall refresh activity and large-deal momentum supporting near-term performance. However, the stock's sharp rerating above historical valuation peaks necessitates durable services growth and sustained share gains for further upside, balancing risk and reward at current levels."

Shrenik Kothari has given his Hold rating due to a combination of factors, balancing Fortinet’s strong fundamentals against a demanding valuation. He highlights that recent channel checks, solid firewall refresh activity, and large-deal momentum underpin confidence in near-term performance, with Q2 and Q3 execution appearing well supported and product growth expected to outpace consensus.

At the same time, he notes that the share price has already rerated sharply, trading above historical valuation peaks, which raises the bar for further upside even as the price target is increased from $115 to $140. In his view, additional stock appreciation now depends on Fortinet proving it can translate robust product demand into faster, durable services growth, sustain share gains, and provide clearer visibility into the back half of 2026 and into 2027, leaving the risk/reward more balanced at current levels.
