# Vera Rubin Real-World Performance Revealed for the First Time, Showing Significant Gains! NVIDIA "Crashes the Party" Ahead of AMD Event

On the eve of rival AMD's annual product launch, NVIDIA delivered a heavy blow by densely releasing real-world performance data for its new-generation Vera Rubin platform and officially unveiling the full specifications of its self-developed CPU chip, Vera.

**On Tuesday, NVIDIA disclosed that the Vera CPU delivers nearly double the performance of x86 chips in agentic AI tasks, with a six-fold improvement in latency.** Meanwhile, early production tests by cloud computing partner CoreWeave showed that the Vera Rubin NVL72 platform achieved a **10x increase in token throughput per megawatt of compute power when running the DeepSeek R1 model, compared to the previous-generation GB200 NVL72 system based on the Blackwell architecture.**

The timing of this data release is significant. **AMD will hold its annual "Advancing AI" product launch in San Francisco this Thursday,** and NVIDIA's concentrated release of performance data is widely interpreted by outsiders as a deliberate market maneuver. For cloud providers and enterprise customers evaluating investments in next-generation AI infrastructure, this batch of data will directly influence their procurement decisions.

At the same time, NVIDIA officially announced that the first deliveries of the Vera CPU were completed in June, with customers including OpenAI, Anthropic, and SpaceX. This marks NVIDIA's formal expansion into the CPU market, launching a direct challenge to the traditional strongholds of AMD and Intel.

## Vera CPU Debut: NVIDIA Officially Enters the Server CPU Market

On Tuesday, NVIDIA released the full specifications, benchmark results, and architecture details for its data center CPU product, Vera—key data required for potential customers to comprehensively evaluate the chip. The company stated that Vera chips were delivered to customers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and SpaceX in June.

**Vera is NVIDIA's first server CPU designed from the core level, adopting a custom microarchitecture codenamed "Olympus core" rather than relying on off-the-shelf designs provided by Arm.**

Hannah Coutand, Head of Product Marketing for Vera at NVIDIA, introduced that the chip's design focuses on single-core speed, high memory bandwidth, and low latency, with the goal of "enabling agents to return to the GPU as quickly as possible and keeping the GPU highly utilized." In terms of hardware specifications, Vera has a power consumption range of 250 to 450 watts, and each chip supports up to 1.5TB of low-power memory.

In the latest published benchmarks, **NVIDIA demonstrated that Vera achieves a 1.9x performance improvement over x86 chips in agentic AI tasks, with a 6x reduction in latency.** NVIDIA also stated that Vera outperforms AMD's flagship EPYC Turin CPU by nearly 100% in certain industry-standard benchmarks. Previously, NVIDIA had claimed that Vera's overall performance in AI agent tasks was 50% higher than that of x86 chips.

The launch of Vera is the latest step in NVIDIA's vertical integration strategy. **Wolfe Research estimates that the average price per Vera chip is approximately $5,000, with expected shipments reaching about 1.3 million units this year.** Ian Buck, Vice President of Hyperscale Computing at NVIDIA, stated that agentic AI makes CPUs "more indispensable" and predicted that the total market size for server CPUs could eventually reach $200 billion.

## Vera Rubin Real-World Test: 10x Leap in Energy Efficiency

CoreWeave completed the industry's first deployment and validation of the Vera Rubin NVL72 in early June, covering full-stack verification of power, cooling, networking, and computing. The data disclosed here represents the first public real-world test results of the Vera Rubin NVL72 silicon performance.

The test used the DeepSeek R1 model as a baseline. **Under the same interactive response targets, the Vera Rubin NVL72 generated 10 times the number of tokens per second per megawatt compared to the GB200 NVL72. CoreWeave also noted that optimizations made for Vera Rubin can be backported to the GB200 NVL72 system, increasing its throughput per megawatt by more than fourfold within three months.** NVIDIA stated that these results were validated through over 250,000 independent configurations and more than 1.4 million GPU hours of testing.

From an architectural perspective, the Vera Rubin NVL72 rack integrates 72 Rubin GPUs and 36 Vera CPUs, connected via a 260 TB/s fully interconnected NVLink 6 architecture, with native support for NVFP4 precision. CoreWeave stated that this efficiency gain means customers can process more inference traffic within the same power budget or run the same workload with less electricity, thereby reducing the cost per token.

CoreWeave also disclosed specific application scenarios: a global cybersecurity company expects to run threat detection inference with 10x performance per watt; an autonomous programming agent company expects to scale agent tasks with significantly reduced token costs; and an AI-native search engine expects to expand real-time search services to more users without breaking response time limits.

## Infrastructure Synergistic Optimization: Hardware-Software Integration Unleashes Greater Efficiency

**NVIDIA emphasized that the aforementioned performance improvements are not solely dependent on the chips themselves but are the comprehensive result of a co-design strategy for hardware and software. By dynamically optimizing the complete infrastructure and energy stack, NVIDIA stated it can deploy 40% more GPUs within the same power envelope.**

Regarding cooling, NVIDIA employs a 45°C closed-loop liquid cooling system, which saves approximately 4 million gallons of water per megawatt annually compared to standard cooling methods. At the network level, the sixth-generation NVLink 6 interconnect architecture delivers 2.3x higher simulated decoding throughput for large language models compared to Ethernet architectures; the Spectrum-X platform achieves 1.6x faster remote direct memory access (RDMA) bandwidth while reducing the number of switches by 1.7x, improving optical power efficiency fivefold and reliability tenfold.

NVIDIA's latest-generation Spectrum-6 platform has begun delivery to AI factory customers such as CoreWeave, Microsoft, Nebius B.V., SpaceXAI Corp., and Tesla. Currently, NVIDIA is accelerating shipments to customers and partners including Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Meta, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Dell Technologies, OpenAI, and CoreWeave.

## NVIDIA Remains a Challenger in the CPU Field

Although Vera's performance data is impressive, NVIDIA still faces significant market share challenges in the CPU market. **Gartner analyst Kevin Knox stated that AMD is currently the main competitor in the enterprise AI server CPU sector. Reportedly, Intel holds about 66.8% of the server CPU market share, while AMD holds about 33%, with AMD continuing to seize market share and establishing deep partnerships with hyperscale cloud service providers.**

Boosted by expectations of increased CPU demand driven by the rise of agentic AI, the stock prices of AMD and Intel have risen by 128% and 149% respectively year-to-date, far exceeding NVIDIA's approximate 8% gain during the same period, making them the brightest performing chip stocks of 2026.

At this stage, Oracle is the only major cloud provider listed among NVIDIA's key cloud service partner list for Vera, excluding other mainstream cloud vendors. Hannah Coutand admitted that Vera is currently still in the "early adoption phase," although OpenAI plans to begin large-scale deployment of Vera chips as early as this quarter.

Karl Freund, founder of Cambrian AI Research, summarized NVIDIA's strategic intent: "Their goal is to free customers from dependence on Intel or AMD CPUs, and they are determined to capture this portion of revenue. They have chosen to focus on building a unique CPU that no one else in the market currently offers."
