# Airbus Shares Surge 7% Following €5 Billion Buyback Announcement and Ambitious 2029 EBIT Goal

**Airbus SE** (PAR:**AIR**) shares leapt 7% on Wednesday, propelled by the aerospace giant's announcement of a hefty €5 billion share buyback program scheduled over the next three years. The move coincided with the unveiling of an ambitious adjusted EBIT goal of between €12 billion and €13 billion by 2029.

During a London business update, CEO Guillaume Faury outlined the company's growth and financial strategy. Alongside leaders from Commercial Aircraft, Helicopters, and Defence & Space divisions, he illustrated Airbus's plans to capitalize on strong market demand with a focus on innovative and sustainable aerospace products.

The buyback program, greenlit by Airbus's board, awaits ongoing shareholder approval but signals management's commitment to returning value. Crucially, the €12-13 billion EBIT target assumes an exchange rate of 1.22 euros per dollar and maintains a cash conversion target near 100% over five years, with no change to the existing 2026 outlook.

Faury emphasized the group's dedication to profitable expansion across all business segments to meet heightened demand for civil and military aerospace solutions, underpinning ongoing investments and innovation. The outlook rests on stable global trade conditions, air traffic growth, and predictable supply chain operations.

Analysts at Morgan Stanley (NYSE:**MS**) described the update as notably upbeat compared to previous expectations. They flagged the share buyback as a significant surprise, estimating that it corresponds to around 1% of the company's market cap annually and up to 25% of cumulative free cash flow from 2026 through 2028.

The brokerage's assessment anticipates Airbus will return approximately 60% of its cumulative free cash flow to shareholders across dividends and buybacks over the next three years. They further detailed industry segment EBIT targets: Commercial Aircraft around €10 billion, Defence & Space €1.3 billion, and Helicopters €1.2 billion.

Discussions also revealed a production rate adjustment for the A320 aircraft, expecting 70 to 75 units per month by 2027. Previous communications hinted at a steady 75 units monthly beyond 2027, but Airbus stopped short of reaffirming that pace going forward.

All in all, the move demonstrates Airbus's confidence in a recovery and growth trajectory more robust than many had factored in, even as it navigates a complex aerospace market with external uncertainties. The next few years appear pivotal for translating this renewed momentum into tangible financial results.
