# Founder Liang Wenfeng: DeepSeek Does Not Seek To Become Next ByteDance or TENCENT, Maximizing Commercial Returns Not Imminent Goal

Details from a four-hour investor meeting hosted by DeepSeek founder Liang Wenfeng were leaked, Chinese news broke. Liang said DeepSeek does not aim to become the next ByteDance or TENCENT (00700.HK) +8.800 (+1.997%) Short selling $5.02B; Ratio 16.848% , adding that competing for consumer traffic or enterprise revenue is not currently the company's primary concern, instead internal focus remains on AGI technology pathways and breakthroughs.

He said DeepSeek is not targeting maximization of commercial returns, but instead hopes to increase the probability of achieving AGI by reducing investment in non-core businesses. Products are not the company's current main focus, and he does not believe excessive resources should be allocated to consumer-facing and enterprise products. Therefore, the company will not prioritize investment in areas such as 3D generation, video generation and world models.

Regarding China-US AI competition, Liang said the gap between the two mainly lies in resources rather than talent. Going forward, he hopes to reshape the narrative of China-US AI competition by narrowing the gap through higher computing efficiency and reduced computing power requirements.
