Middle East tensions intensified, with reports that an oil tanker was attacked off the Saudi coast and the US threatening to escalate military action. New York oil futures rose above USD90, last reported at USD90.13 per barrel, up 3.8%, the highest since June 8. Brent oil futures climbed 4.6% to USD98.44 per barrel. DJIA futures last slid more than 200 pts, last at 52,229, down 220 pts or 0.4%, while S&P 500 futures and Nasdaq futures dipped 0.36% and 0.32% respectively. Major European stock markets opened broadly lower on Thursday. The pan-European STOXX 600 fell 0.6% to 642.87. The UK's FTSE 100 dropped nearly 0.2% to 10,699. France's CAC fell nearly 1% to 8,354. Germany's DAX declined 0.6% to 25,012. Italy's FTSE MIB slid 1.9% to 51,789. Spain's IBEX 35 dropped 0.7% to 19,434. STMICROELECTRONICS once plunged 17% and last plunged 13%. The company swung to profit YoY in 2Q, posting net profit of USD222 million, beating expectations, compared with a loss of USD97 million in the same period last year. However, its 3Q net revenue outlook missed expectations. NESTLE slumped 7%, marking its biggest single-day decline since 2020. The company announced 1H sales of CHF43.11 billion, beating expectations, and maintained its forecast for full-year organic revenue growth of 3-4%. On the same day, NESTLE announced that it agreed to sell a 50% stake in its bottled water business to private equity firm Platinum Equity for approximately EUR3 billion in cash. The business owns brands including Perrier and S.Pellegrino.
