# Hong Kong Disneyland rolls out afternoon tickets, extra cooling to beat the heat

Hong Kong Disneyland Resort has introduced a discounted afternoon ticket and expanded its cooling facilities to help minimise operational disruptions arising from hot weather and heavy rain over the summer. The theme park on Lantau Island on Thursday unveiled a “Summer Chill” 4pm entry ticket for Hong Kong residents, priced at HK$480 (US$61), allowing guests to enter later in the day to avoid the hottest hours or periods of heavy rain. The park said it had also stepped up weather adaptation measures, including installing about 860 fans, portable air conditioning units, mist cooling systems and additional shading blinds. The resort also upgraded nearly half of its more than 40 free water dispensers to improve flow rates, a representative said. The park added that it would closely monitor the weather and adjust outdoor show schedules when the government’s heat stress at work warnings are in effect. Frontline staff will also get extra rest breaks, hydration support and access to cooling facilities during periods of extreme heat and humidity. The measures come after typhoons and bad weather contributed to a 36 per cent year-on-year contraction in net profit to HK$536 million for the financial year ending September 30 last year. Still, that profit was the second-highest in the park’s 20-year history. During that fiscal year, 15 typhoons, including several super typhoons, and five black rainstorms forced temporary closures, prompting Disneyland to consider adding more covered and indoor experiences. The latest initiatives encourage visitors to utilise indoor attractions and entertainment during the hottest parts of the day. The park said staff had analysed sunlight, temperature, humidity and wind, alongside computer simulations, to guide the design of facilities, including shaded seating areas and improved airflow in outdoor spaces. Disneyland said guests visiting during its ongoing Pixar Summer Fest could also take part in a water-themed parade and enjoy a range of themed frozen treats designed for the summer season.
