# Toyota, Hyundai and Honda Control 86% of Surging U.S. Hybrid Market

According to CNBC, hybrid car sales in the first half of 2026 rose nearly 20% year over year to a record 15.4% share of the U.S. market, according to the Center for Automotive Research, while Toyota, Hyundai Motor Group and Honda controlled 86% of the segment, according to Baum & Associates. Toyota sold more than 600,000 hybrids across Toyota and Lexus, giving it half the market, while Hyundai Motor Group narrowly overtook Honda and American Honda set a U.S. hybrid sales record in the first half of 2026. The article said General Motors has only one hybrid in its U.S. lineup, the Corvette E-Ray, though the company said hybrids have a role in its future product plans. Elizabeth Krear, CEO of the Center for Automotive Research, said hybrid market share is the only propulsion category still growing, while Alan Baum of Baum & Associates said consumer demand is strong but relatively few automakers offer the vehicles. Honda, which said hybrids account for 31% of American Honda sales, reported first-half U.S. hybrid sales at a record and plans to release a new hybrid system for larger vehicles. Baum & Associates expects EVs to reach 9.5% market share and hybrids to make up a quarter of the market by 2030.
