# Shinhan Financial Group to Cancel Up to KRW 700 Billion in Treasury Shares After Buyback

Shinhan Financial Group Co ( (SHG) ) has provided an announcement.

On July 23, 2026, Shinhan Financial Group’s board approved the cancellation of 6,698,565 treasury common shares, representing stock with a face value of KRW 5,000 per share and an estimated total cancellation amount of KRW 700 billion. The move covers one treasury share acquired via a past comprehensive share exchange and the bulk of shares to be repurchased on the Korea Exchange between July 31 and October 22, 2026, under rules requiring cancellation within one year of acquisition.

The company stressed that while the number of issued shares will fall from its current 469,450,239 common shares, the total capital will remain unchanged because the cancellation is executed within profits available for dividends under Article 343 of the Korean Commercial Code. This large-scale share reduction is poised to enhance per-share metrics and signals a shareholder-friendly capital return strategy, though the final number of shares and cancellation amount may vary with market prices and will be confirmed in a later filing.

**Spark’s Take on SHG Stock**

According to Spark, TipRanks’ AI Analyst, SHG is a Neutral.

The score is driven primarily by improved profitability and a supportive earnings-call outlook with clear capital-return targets, reinforced by attractive valuation (low P/E and solid yield). These positives are tempered by financial quality risks—especially weak/volatile TTM free cash flow, elevated leverage, and earnings-call flags around CET1 pressure, rising credit costs, and lower NPL coverage—while technical signals remain mixed.
