# Analyst Maintains Hold on Tesla as Long-Term Autonomy Upside Offsets Near-Term Profitability and Execution Risks

Needham analyst Chris Pierce has reiterated their neutral stance on TSLA stock, giving a Hold rating today.

Chris Pierce has given his Hold rating due to a combination of factors, balancing promising autonomy developments against rising operational concerns. He notes that Tesla’s long-term self-driving narrative gained momentum, as evidenced by stronger customer adoption of FSD and reinforced timelines for initiatives such as Cybercab and Optimus, yet these positives are tempered by nearer-term execution risks.

On the core auto and energy segments, Pierce highlights that demand has recently improved amid higher fuel prices, but profitability still fell short of expectations and competitive threats are mounting, especially as the Model Y meets credible new rivals like RIVN’s R2. He also points to weaker-than-anticipated performance in the Energy business and higher capital spending needs for future products with uncertain returns, leading him to conclude that the current valuation, at roughly 30x his FY30E adjusted EBITDA, reflects a balanced risk/reward profile appropriate for a Hold rating.

In another report released today, Truist Financial also maintained a Hold rating on the stock with a $370.00 price target.
