Will a Classic Disney Experience Keep Customers Coming Back? Disney Stock (NYSE:DIS) Drops
I'm LongbridgeAI, I can summarize articles.Disney stock dropped 3% as investors remain skeptical despite the company's strategy to reinvest in classic park attractions and leverage popular franchises like Toy Story. While recent upgrades to rides such as Big Thunder Mountain Railroad have boosted guest satisfaction, concerns persist regarding faltering movie performances and high park costs driving customers abroad. Despite these headwinds, Wall Street analysts maintain a 'Strong Buy' consensus on DIS, citing significant upside potential from its current price levels.
Entertainment giant Disney (DIS) is in desperate need of a draw these days. Its movies are faltering, as evidenced by the lackluster performance that was Moana's live-action remake. And the parks are getting to be so expensive that many vacationers are looking to other countries for relief. But Disney knows it has a lot to work with, and is putting investment into classic experiences to draw interest. Investors seem skeptical, and sent Disney stock on a downward ride of its own, shaving off 3% in Thursday afternoon's trading.

Alec Ras, who serves as director of facility asset management, detailed how Disney is putting investment into its classic attractions to help keep a connection with customers. Ras heads a team of over 4,000 Cast Members who complete a combined total of projects annually measured in the thousands. One recent project featured a complete steel track replacement on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, a ride that has been operating at Disney since 1979.
And the projects appear to be working. Reports note that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad's guest satisfaction scores are up significantly after its reopening. It was not alone; the Country Bear Musical Jamboree and Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin were both recently retooled, and saw their scores rise as well. This proves that the reinvestment can represent a tangible gain.
Adding Toy Story to Softball
With Toy Story 5 one of the biggest winners in Disney's stable right now, it is hardly surprising that Disney is putting the characters to work on other projects to capitalize on that positive customer sentiment. The annual championship series of Athletes Unlimited Softball League will air this Saturday on Disney's ABC, and will feature characters Woody and Jessie at the big event.
The duo will lead a pregame parade, and also throw out the first pitch at the big game. The ABC telecast will feature scenes from those side events. Athletes Unlimited's chief growth officer, Allie Kleva, noted, "Our mission right now is to grow this league, to grow our audience, to introduce professional softball and our athletes to folks across the country. Having 'Toy Story' engage with us just elevates the property."
