# Devon Energy's $4 Billion Portfolio Purge, Plus the Permian Basin Boom

The great American energy consolidation is officially entering its next phase. Following a wave of mega-mergers that reshaped the landscape, the focus has abruptly shifted to trimming the fat. At the center of this week's action is Devon Energy (DVN.US).

After closing its all-stock tie-up with Coterra Energy, Devon is now reportedly weighing the sale of its Eagle Ford and Powder River basin assets. The potential price tag? North of $4 billion. It is a classic post-merger playbook: bowing to intense investor pressure to streamline operations and double down on the highly lucrative, high-margin Permian Basin.

That Permian obsession is paying off handsomely for rivals. Diamondback Energy (FANG.US) recently posted massive first-quarter cash flows, prompting analysts to aggressively hike their second-quarter earnings estimates. The underlying message is crystal clear: scale in the Permian is the ultimate cash-printing machine in 2026.

But the upstream drillers aren't the only ones cashing in. The midstream infrastructure powering this boom—and shipping it overseas—is operating at a record clip.

Here is what else is happening across the energy sector:

- **Kinder Morgan (KMI.US):** The pipeline giant just posted record second-quarter results, driven largely by surging LNG export demand and power generation needs. Management is so confident in the momentum that they bumped up their full-year EPS guidance by over 12%.
- **TotalEnergies (TTE.US):** The French supermajor isn't letting Middle East supply disruptions slow it down. It reported a massive $6 billion in adjusted net income for the second quarter, leaning heavily on its diversified LNG portfolio and elevated global oil prices.
- **The Texas Migration:** Energy Transfer (ET.US) and Sunoco (SUN.US) are officially moving their corporate registrations to Texas. Sunoco is on an absolute tear, recently hitting an all-time high after acquiring 140 convenience stores in a massive bolt-on acquisition spree.
- **Dragonfly Energy (DFLI.US):** On the renewable side, things remain a bit bumpier. The lithium-ion battery maker delivered a wider-than-expected earnings loss for the first quarter, though its revenue slightly edged past analyst estimates. All eyes are on its upcoming August report for signs of a turnaround.
