# "Borrowing to Trade Stocks" to Face 20% Cap! South Korean Financial Regulators Take Further Steps to Curb Overheated Leverage in Individual Stocks

According to South Korea's JoongAng Ilbo, financial regulatory authorities in South Korea have decided to introduce additional regulatory measures, such as individual investment caps, if the overheating in leveraged products for individual stocks fails to subside. Currently, they are prioritizing the study of a proposal to limit leveraged investments in individual stocks to within 20% of the total amount invested in all financial investment products.

On the 28th, Lee Eok-ryun, Chairman of the Financial Services Commission, presided over a seminar at the Korea Financial Investment Association in Yeouido, Seoul, to discuss supplementary directions for leveraged products tied to individual stocks. During the meeting, Chairman Lee stated, "We will first closely monitor the policy effects of the supplementary measures, such as the strengthened basic initial margin requirements, implemented from July 31." He also added, "If demand does not sufficiently subside, we will also study and prepare additional measures in advance."
