# Samsung Confirms Stablecoins Are Coming to Samsung Wallet as Crypto Payments Move Closer to Mainstream

## Samsung Wallet Set to Add Stablecoin Support in Major Digital Payments Push

Samsung Electronics is preparing to bring stablecoins into Samsung Wallet, a move that would place cryptocurrency-linked payments directly in the hands of roughly 800 million users worldwide.

The South Korean technology giant confirmed the plan during its Galaxy Unpacked event, where executives described a future in which payments, rewards and digital assets sit together in one mobile wallet.

## What Did Samsung Actually Announce

Samsung product manager Lee Dinham told the Unpacked audience that the wallet's role is changing.

> "Samsung Wallet will expand beyond cash and savings. It will embrace new forms of digital value, including stablecoins.”

He went further, stating the company wants to be among the first smartphone makers to build stablecoin support directly into its devices, calling it a way of "enabling fast and trusted digital value transfers."

Samsung has not named which stablecoins will be supported, has not set a launch date, and has not confirmed which partners, if any, will be involved.

## Why Coinbase And USDC Keep Coming Up

Even without official confirmation, speculation has centred on two names already familiar to Samsung users.

The company expanded its partnership with Coinbase in October 2025, letting Galaxy users in the United States buy cryptocurrency straight from Samsung Wallet.

That rollout initially reached more than 75 million Galaxy owners in the country, with both companies signalling plans to widen it to other markets over time.

At the time, Coinbase's Chief Business Officer Shan Aggarwal said the tie-up brought together Samsung's global reach with Coinbase's crypto infrastructure to make digital assets simpler to access.

Samsung also sweetened the deal with a three-month Coinbase One subscription for new sign-ups and trading credits for first-time buyers through the wallet.

Given this existing relationship, reports have suggested Circle's USDC stablecoin could be among the first to be integrated once Samsung finalises its plans.

## How This Fits Into Samsung's Wider Financial Ambitions

The stablecoin plan is not a standalone idea.

It sits inside a larger effort by Samsung to turn its wallet into a full financial platform.

The company recently announced its entry into the US credit card market with the Galaxy Card, issued by Barclays and running on Visa's network, with rewards structured to encourage spending across Samsung's own stores and services.

Last year, Samsung also added buy now, pay later financing through a partnership with Splitit, allowing users to spread the cost of purchases without leaving the Samsung ecosystem.

Payment cards, digital identification documents and rewards programmes are already stored within the wallet, meaning stablecoins would become another layer on an already crowded financial product.

## Could This Actually Change How People Use Crypto

Analysts believe the timing and scale matter here.

Joel Hugentobler, a cryptocurrency analyst at Javelin Strategy and Research, said distribution, not technology, has always been the real obstacle for stablecoins.

> "Instead of asking people to download another wallet or app, Samsung could put stablecoins into a wallet millions of people already use, so it makes it much easier for the average joe to hold, send, or even spend stablecoins.”

He added that the finer points still carry weight.

Hugentobler said,

> "The details still matter, like which stablecoin, which blockchain, and which countries will launch it, but if they can make the experience seamless, this could be a meaningful step toward mainstream adoption, especially for cross-border payments."

## The Problem Samsung Would Still Need To Solve

Even with hundreds of millions of devices as a potential entry point, stablecoins face a practical wall, merchants simply don't accept them widely yet.

Research from MNEE Pay and YouGov found that many stablecoin holders end up converting at least part of their holdings back into regular currency because there's nowhere to spend them directly.

Placing stablecoins inside a wallet already used for everyday payments could help chip away at that problem, giving merchants a reason to consider accepting them if enough customers start asking.

Whether Samsung can pull that off will depend on the details it has yet to share, but the company has said stablecoin support for Samsung Wallet remains on its roadmap for this year.
