# Apple's Smart Home "Shake-up": New Siri AI Terminals Planned for Fall, Apple TV and HomePod mini Poised for Launch

Apple is renewing its efforts in the smart home sector, positioning the upgraded Siri AI as the core of its new hardware strategy in an attempt to directly challenge the markets long dominated by Amazon and Google.

On July 28, citing insiders, Bloomberg reported that **Apple is close to completing the development of three new smart home products, including its first smart home hub device centered around the new Siri AI, as well as the next-generation Apple TV and HomePod mini.**

The new Apple TV and HomePod mini are expected to be released this fall, while the smart home hub device is scheduled to hit the market between October of this year and early next year. Boosted by this news, Apple's stock rose as much as 1.8% during Tuesday's trading session to $342.89, pushing the company's market capitalization above $5 trillion for the first time.

This marks Apple's most significant product expansion in the smart home field in recent years. **As generative AI accelerates its penetration into home scenarios, Apple hopes to leverage Siri AI to reshape the home device experience**, competing directly with products like Amazon's Echo Show and Google's Nest Hub, while cultivating a new growth engine for its slowing wearables and accessories business.

## Home Hub: Facial Recognition Drives Personalized Experience

The most anticipated product this time is Apple's first home hub device.

Equipped with a roughly 7-inch square display, the product features a new operating system built on Apple TV's tvOS. The interface blends design languages from tvOS, watchOS, and iOS, offering interactions through icon grids, widgets, and applications. The device supports FaceTime video calls, home security monitoring, multi-device intercom, and integrates functions such as smart home control, photo browsing, calendar management, and music playback, while also providing a personalized watch face experience similar to that of the Apple Watch.

**Compared to existing smart display devices, its biggest differentiating feature is facial recognition capability.** The system can real-time identify the user in front of the screen and their distance from the device, dynamically adjusting the interface layout, font size, and displayed content accordingly, and automatically loading the corresponding user's calendar, reminders, and other personalized information.

According to reports citing insiders, there are currently two versions of this product. The version with the internal codename J490 features a design where the screen sits on a hemispherical base, resembling a "sliced" HomePod mini; the other version, codenamed J491, can be mounted on a wall via a horizontal bracket. Apple envisions users deploying multiple such devices in different rooms of their homes to form a unified home interaction network.

## Software Delays Slow Down Hardware Launch Pace

According to reports, the development of the aforementioned three products began as early as 2024. Apple originally planned to launch these new products alongside a completely reconstructed Siri, but due to repeated setbacks in the development progress of the new Siri, the entire product roadmap was forced to adjust.

**Ultimately, the new assistant will be officially released under the brand name "Siri AI" this fall along with systems such as iOS 27.**

Affected by software development delays, the release dates for the related hardware have been postponed several times. From the initial plan for a 2024 release, subsequently adjusted to spring 2025, then fall 2025, and further delayed to spring 2026, Apple has modified the product timeline multiple times. Citing insiders, the report stated that **since these devices heavily rely on Siri AI to provide the core experience, it is difficult to split the hardware and software launches, meaning there is theoretically still a possibility of further delays for the related products.**

Meanwhile, the new Apple TV and HomePod mini (with internal codenames J265 and B525, respectively) will continue the existing exterior design, mainly upgrading to faster processors and supporting Siri AI functions. Insiders stated that the two products are expected to be priced at $199 and $129, respectively.

## Robotic Hubs and Security Cameras Already in Planning

In addition to the three new products about to be launched, Apple is also planning at least two higher-end smart home devices.

One is a robotic version of the home hub equipped with a mechanical arm, with the screen size expanded to approximately 9 inches. The mechanical arm can drive the display to automatically follow the user's movement. For example, during a FaceTime video call, the device can automatically adjust the shooting angle to keep the person centered in the frame or track other objects in the room.

The other is a high-end indoor security camera with the internal codename J450, accompanied by a home security system, directly targeting the leading position of Amazon's Ring in the home security market.

As the home hub, Apple TV, HomePod mini, robotic devices, and security products are successively incorporated into the plan, Apple is rebuilding its smart home ecosystem around Siri AI. **This is also the first time in recent years that Apple has systematically laid out the home scenario with AI capabilities as the core, rather than focusing on a single hardware product.**
