# TSX Back in Green by Late Morning

Canada's main stock index pointed upward as Tuesday morning became afternoon, as tech and consumer stocks led the way.

The TSX recovered from a slow start by noon EDT, tacking on 98.15 points to 35,266.29.

The Canadian dollar edged up 0.18 cents to 70.97 cents U.S.

Tech firms and real estate companies, including Celestica and TFI International, beat second-quarter adjusted earnings estimates amid a lineup of results by other companies late on Monday.

Celestica reached midday Tuesday ahead $29.91, or 6.6%, to $479.40, while TFI spiked $9.31, or 4.5%, to $215.13.

Focus is also on fresh corporate earnings, with multiple miners and energy firms, including First Quantum, Cardinal Energy, set to report quarterly results after the bell.

First Quantum shares lost 82 cents, or 2.1%,, or 2.1%, to $37.58, while Cardinal shares let go of 20 cents, or 1.8%, to $11.00.

Separately, Brookfield has raised around $2 billion from strategic anchor investors, including Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, for a private equity fund that will invest in companies in the kingdom and wider Middle East.

Brookfield dished off 16 cents to $59.57.

ON BAYSTREET

The TSX Venture Exchange subtracted 21.82 points, or 2.5% to move into Tuesday afternoon at 865.91.

All but three of the 12 TSX subgroups were positive, with information technology surging 3.7%, while consumer staples hiked 2.2%, and telecoms, captured 2%,

The three laggards were materials, settling 2.6%, gold, off 2.4%, and health-care, ailing 0.3%.

ON WALLSTREET

The major stock benchmarks diverged on Tuesday, as traders pored through the latest batch of corporate earnings, while semiconductor names kept struggling.

The Dow Jones Industrials popped 639.82 points, or 1.2%, to 52,849.90. Sherwin-Williams rose 8% on the back of better-than-expected results for Q2 to lead the benchmark higher. Fellow Dow member Coca-Cola also gained more than 6% following an earnings beat.

The S&P 500 reversed course and strengthened 33.25 points to 7,446.43

The NASDAQ Composite cleared breakeven 28.51 points to 24,960.59, led by 9% a decline in Micron. Arm Holdings and Teradyne fell 7%.

Prices for the 10-year Treasury gained, lowering yields to 4.59% from Monday’s 4.65%. Treasury prices and yields move in opposite directions.

Oil prices subsided $3.40 to $79.21 U.S. a barrel.

Gold prices declined $40.10 to $4,036.90 U.S. an ounce.
