Why Is This Happening? XRP (**XRP-USD**) is taking a much harder hit than other major cryptos during market downturns. XRP sits about 67% below its highest peak ever. This is a much deeper loss than Bitcoin (**BTC-USD**) or Ethereum (**ETH-USD**). Too many small investors and large traders are making the same bet on XRP at the same time. Simultaneously, the biggest XRP holders are selling off their coins. ## **Too Many People Are Making the Exact Same Bet on XRP** The first main problem comes from how people are betting on XRP in the market. Both everyday investors and big professional traders are currently betting that the XRP price will go up. When almost everyone in the market is already betting that XRP will rise, there are no new buyers left to step in and buy. The moment the XRP price starts to slip, people who borrowed money to place those bets are forced to sell their XRP instantly. This rush to get out creates a fast chain reaction of forced sales. So, this drives XRP's price down even faster. ## **XRP Whales Are Selling Off Their Coins** The second problem comes from the largest XRP owners, often called whales. Wallets that hold over one billion XRP coins have been lowering their total share of the XRP supply over the past few months. The constant selling by large holders creates a major risk for everyday XRP investors. Normally, large holders step in to buy up XRP during price drops, which helps stop the fall. With those giant owners selling off their XRP instead, there is no safety net left to stop the XRP price from tumbling when selling starts.
