Tesla's 10 Millionth EV Rolls Off the Line Globally; Shanghai Gigafactory Sets H1 Production Record

On July 30, Tesla officially announced that its 10 millionth electric vehicle had formally rolled off the production line at the Fremont Factory, making Tesla the first company globally to achieve a cumulative production of 10 million electric vehicles.

In the first half of 2026, Tesla's global deliveries exceeded 830,000 units, equivalent to selling one car every 9 seconds on average (based on operating hours of global stores); among these, global deliveries in the second quarter exceeded 480,000 units, setting a new historical high for Tesla's second-quarter deliveries.

According to Tesla representatives, in 2006, Tesla built its first Roadster prototype. In July 2026, the 10 millionth pure electric vehicle rolled off the production line—spanning exactly 20 years from the first to the 10 millionth vehicle. Counting from the first mass-produced model, it took Tesla 12 years to produce the first 1 million units; whereas the most recent 1 million units were produced in just a few months.

By the end of the second quarter, Tesla's backlog of orders awaiting delivery reached its highest level since 2023. According to statistics from CleanTechnica, from January to May 2026, the Model Y topped the global new energy vehicle sales chart with 408,000 units sold, more than double the volume of the second-place competitor; the Model 3 ranked third with 164,000 units.

More than half of the globally popular Tesla orders were fulfilled by the Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory. In the first half of 2026, the Shanghai Gigafactory's deliveries approached 468,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 28.4%. Since the delivery of the first batch of China-made Model 3 vehicles in December 2019, the Shanghai Gigafactory has cumulatively produced over 4.5 million electric vehicles in six and a half years, accounting for more than 45% of Tesla's global total production, making it Tesla's largest global export hub.
