# Starbucks Fiscal 2026 Q3 Earnings: Net Revenue of $9.32 Billion, Net Profit Attributable to Shareholders Reaches $1.05 Billion

On July 29, U.S. time, Starbucks released its earnings report for the third quarter of fiscal 2026. Against a backdrop of macroeconomic consumption volatility, Starbucks' core financial data generally exceeded Wall Street expectations.

The report showed that the company achieved net revenue of $9.32 billion during the period, higher than the market expectation of $9.16 billion; net profit attributable to shareholders reached $1.05 billion, marking a significant year-over-year increase.

A breakdown of the financial report reveals a clear structural divergence in the trend of consolidated net revenue and profit margins this quarter.

The lack of aggressive expansion in reported revenue was not due to weak end-consumer demand, but rather influenced by adjustments to the scope of financial consolidation. Setting aside changes in revenue volume, its actual profitability achieved substantial expansion due to the asset-light transformation overseas and improved operational efficiency in its home market.

In the international business segment, the adjustment of the operating model in the China market is a key variable for understanding this quarter's earnings. Previously, Starbucks completed a joint venture transaction for its retail business in China, partially converting the heavy-asset direct-operated model in this key market into a franchised joint venture model.

In the third fiscal quarter, the effects of this structural transition have fully materialized.

Affected by the completion of the joint venture closing for the China retail business and its deconsolidation from the financial statements, the consolidated net revenue of the international segment decreased on a quarterly basis. The contraction in reported revenue was exchanged for an improvement in asset return levels; after completing the asset-light transformation, the operating profit margin of the international segment rose significantly year-over-year.

From a business logic perspective, shifting towards franchising effectively reduced Starbucks' capital expenditure pressure and high fixed costs in single regional markets, enabling the company to achieve more robust cash flow.

The North American market remains the core foundation supporting Starbucks' Comps data. In this fiscal quarter, Comps in the North American market continued their positive growth trend, with both transaction volume and average ticket size recording steady increases, which is closely related to the company's ongoing operational efficiency reforms.

The business adjustments led by current CEO Brian Niccol are gradually being implemented.

As disclosed in the earnings conference call, a large number of directly operated stores in the North American market have completed upgrades to key equipment. This directly addresses the capacity bottlenecks in recent years caused by the rise in mobile orders and increased customization of cold beverages, effectively shortening drink preparation times during peak hours.

Meanwhile, the high-margin cold beverage series continues to dominate sales in North America, coupled with the continuous growth in the number of active members in the Starbucks Rewards program, providing a solid digital foundation for maintaining transaction frequency.

Based on the steady performance in the North American market and the recovery of profit margins in the international market, Starbucks raised its full-year fiscal 2026 operating margin expectations and earnings per share guidance range in its earnings report.

In terms of store network expansion, the company maintained a relatively restrained pace, and the proportion of franchised stores among new openings is gradually increasing, aligning with the overall financial strategy of transitioning towards an asset-light, high-leverage operation.

Overall, Starbucks is in a critical cycle of transitioning from "extensive scale expansion" to "capital efficiency optimization." By releasing profits through the restructuring of overseas market models and deepening efficiency through equipment upgrades in the North American home market, Starbucks has stabilized its fundamentals amidst a complex macroeconomic cycle.

Going forward, the extent of profit recovery brought about by this structural adjustment, and how to maintain consistent global quality control after increasing the proportion of franchising, will be the core indicators continuously tracked by the capital market.
