# Why Is Micron Stock (MU) Suddenly Jumping Today — July 30, 2026?

Shares in U.S. memory chipmaker Micron (MU) suddenly spiked by more than 16% on Thursday morning after closing in the red over its past four sessions. MU stock dropped by almost 20% during this period. However, the rally came after archrival Samsung Electronics (SSNLF) reported record operating profits and sales for its second quarter. More importantly, the South Korean memory chipmaker said it expects the chip shortage fueling its sales to deepen and extend well into 2028.
