# Apple releases third-quarter report: performance exceeds expectations but guidance is weak, supply chain concerns attract market attention

Apple Inc. recently announced its financial report for the third quarter of fiscal year 2026. The data shows that thanks to strong growth in the iPhone business, Apple's revenue and profit for the quarter exceeded market expectations. However, affected by global supply chain constraints, the company's performance guidance for the next fiscal quarter was weak, raising concerns in the capital markets. Following the release of the financial report, Apple's stock price fell more than 6% in after-hours trading.

Financial data shows that Apple achieved a net profit of $29.79 billion in the third quarter, with earnings per share of $2.02, a significant increase from $23.43 billion (earnings per share of $1.57) in the same period last year. Total revenue for the period reached $109.42 billion, surpassing the market expectation of $108.65 billion. This marks the third consecutive quarter that Apple has achieved revenue growth of over 15%.

In specific business segments, the iPhone business performed well, generating revenue of $54.25 billion, a year-on-year increase of 22%, and exceeding market expectations of $53.86 billion. The Mac and wearable devices businesses achieved revenues of $10.35 billion and $7.88 billion, respectively, also exceeding expectations. However, the iPad business revenue was $6.19 billion, and service business revenue was $30.74 billion, both below market expectations. This quarter, Apple's gross margin reached 50.1%, with cash reserves at the end of the period totaling $146.52 billion.

Current CEO Tim Cook pointed out that the ongoing global shortage of memory chips and competition for chip manufacturing capacity has forced the company to raise prices for Mac and iPad products. Market analysts generally expect that due to continued pressure on the supply chain, Apple may face pressure to increase iPhone prices within the year.

Additionally, Apple is accelerating its layout in the field of artificial intelligence. It is expected that in September this year, the company will launch a restructured Siri intelligent assistant based on Google technology alongside the release of new iPhone hardware. This move is seen as a key initiative for Apple to respond to market concerns about its lagging artificial intelligence technology.

It is noteworthy that this earnings call is Tim Cook's last as CEO. John Ternus, the current head of hardware business and a 25-year veteran at Apple, will succeed him as CEO
