# U.S. Stock Futures Higher as AI Rebound Continues

By Dow Jones Newswires Staff

U.S. stock futures rose in early European trade as enthusiasm returned to the artificial-intelligence trade.

Nasdaq futures jumped 1.2% after the tech-heavy index had its best day in over a month Thursday, as investors piled back into AI-linked stocks following positive earnings from tech giants Microsoft and Amazon. The AI optimism drove the volatile Kospi to its biggest daily rise on record in Korea, while European tech stocks also rallied.

Oil prices fell back slightly amid an uptick in ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Market watchers reacted with cautious optimism that Hamas and other Palestinian militant groups' agreement to disarm could help unlock broader regional peace talks.

The dollar recovered from a six-week low following possible market intervention by Japanese officials to support the struggling Yen. Investors remain on watch for further intervention Friday. Markets also await U.S. second-quarter employment cost index data.

\--Oil prices fell in early trading but remain on track for a monthly surge of around 20%. Ship-tracking data point to a modest increase in tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, according to analysts, while Saudi Arabia unveiled plans for a multinational maritime defense coalition aimed at protecting international shipping. Front-month Brent crude was down 1.1% to $88.09 a barrel, while WTI fell 1.4% to $82.42 a barrel. Still, risks remain elevated, with a drone strike at Egypt's Damietta port raising fresh concerns over Suez Canal shipping.

\--In the U.S., futures for the S&P 500 were up 0.5%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.6%. Nasdaq futures rose 1.2%. Amazon shares surged 12% premarket after investors jumped on revenue growth in the company's cloud computing business. Apple fared less well, falling 7.4% premarket after the iPhone-maker said it expects growth to slow. Oil majors ExxonMobil and Chevron are among companies reporting Friday.

\--In Asia, South Korea's Kospi index, which is dominated by the nation's largest chip makers Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, jumped over 17% on Friday in a dramatic reversal of a selloff over the previous three trading days. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index was flat, while the benchmark Shanghai composite rose 0.7%.

\--European stock indexes gained in early trade as the Europe-wide Stoxx 600 rose 0.8% to a new record high. The continent's tech stocks followed Asian peers higher and lower oil prices also boosted indexes. The semiconductor-heavy AEX rose 0.2% in Amsterdam. ASML gained 3.4% while ASM International jumped 5.4%, though Universal Music Group plummeted by over 21% after earnings. London's FTSE 100 was 0.6% higher, boosted by miners and a 5.1% jump for grocer Sainsbury. The German DAX rose 0.7%, with chip maker Infineon surging 7% and gas turbine-maker Siemens Energy gaining 3.5%. Credit Agricole added 4.3% after earnings, and banks helped the French CAC 40 up 0.7%. Spain's IBEX 35 was up 0.7%, while Italy's FTSE MIB added 0.6%.

\--The dollar rose against a basket of currencies as the yen handed back gains following the Bank of Japan's decision to leave interest rates unchanged. The central bank acted too cautiously in Friday's policy decision, Commerzbank's Volkmar Baur said in a note. The dollar's falls Thursday also followed softer-than-expected U.S. economic growth data and the Federal Reserve keeping rates unchanged. The DXY dollar index rose 0.3% to 100.126 after falling to as low as 99.857 Thursday. The dollar rose 0.6% to 160.41 yen, having hit an 11-week low of 157.96 yen Thursday.

\--U.S. Treasury yields declined in Asian trade, reversing Thursday's increases that saw the 30-year yield hit a 19-year high of 5.244%. The 10-year Treasury yield fell 1.4 basis points to 4.648%, while the 30-year yield declined 1.7 basis points to 5.190%.

\--Eurozone government bond yields fell in opening trade, tracking U.S. peers, ahead of a flurry of key economic data. Flash estimate inflation figures for July will be released from France and Italy, followed by the eurozone as a whole at 0900 GMT. Italian consumer and business confidence surveys are also up for release. The 10-year German Bund yield fell 1.6 basis points to 3.150%.

\--Bitcoin fell 1.0% to $64,062.

\--Gold prices slipped on Friday, but are headed for their first monthly gain in five months as investors closely monitor developments in the Middle East. New York gold futures fell 0.7% to $4,132.50 a troy ounce in early European trading, but are up 1.5% on the week.
